We need your help! Do you have a sewing machine to donate or sell to our queer sewing workshops? Our workshops include all needed supplies, including sewing machines! This year we’re investing in dedicated machines for the workshops. We’d love your donation machines, but we also have a budget to buy some second hand machines, in case that sweetens the deal! Machines must be in good working condition and able to sew: • zigzag stitches • through thick waistband elastic • under $200 • local to the Salt Lake Valley area and able to drop off or schedule a pickup with us! We love machines like the Singer Heavy Duty (pictured), but any sturdy machine that has some strength and can do a good zigzag stitch would be great. Send us a message here on Instagram, our website, or email: WasatchSewingCollective.org WasatchSewingCollective@proton.me We are so excited to have more of our own machines to help us teach queers how to sew! Please share with anyone who might have a machine 💙 Image description: 1- a simple graphic with an illustration of a sewing machine in green on a beige background. 2- a photo of an attendee using a Singer Heavy Duty sewing machine #wasatchsewingcollective #sewingworkshop #queerworkshop #slc #fiberarts

Last day to apply! Award and waitlist emails go out tomorrow. Link in Bio. Brief (AKA Panty) Making Workshop Tuesday November 3rd, 5pm - 8pm Saturday November 7th, 11am - 6pm Indie Square Coworking, Murray, Utah Beginner participants must be able to attend both sessions. DETAILS Learn to sew! Learn to make briefs --aka panties! Like a pro, from the pros! In an inclusive, encouraging, environment alongside other queer and trans people. This intensive 8 hour workshop is structured to accommodate LGBTQIA+ of all sewing levels. It includes conventional women's underwear, versions with more front/crotch space, and compression* (aka tucking) styles. This is crash course --in a fun way! If this is your first time sewing, it will be challenging sure, but 100% doable. We can basically guarantee you'll leave with a pair of self made underwear! We take lots of breaks, all meals and snacks are provided, plus our instructors are really great. If you mostly just want to learn to sew --not necessarily super interested in underwear making, this workshop is still for you. The skills you'll learn are universal. A special note for low income Black & Indigenous people. We welcome you to take the workshop for free and we can offer reimbursement up to $30 for a Lyft, Uber or taxi if you need it, and/or help coordinate rideshares. *Compression undies are worn by some transgender women, femme, nonbinary or drag performers who want a flat front look in their underwear.

Update - Workshop applications are live, so is our little Weebly website that could, go gentle on her. Link in bio. Website WasatchSewingCollective.org This is our 3rd year putting on sewing and underwear making workshops —and our first year as Wasatch Sewing Collective! We want to introduce the collective and answer some of our most frequently asked questions. What other questions do you have for us? Our Info & Interest form (linked in bio) has even more details, filling it out signs you up for email updates, which is the best way to get workshops announcements. We’re also aiming to launch a website this week, and open applications for the first workshop —Boxer Brief Making asap! Please note, even if you’re not the most interested in making underwear, as long as you are a queer or trans person wanting to learn to sew, these workshops are still for you! All the sewing skills are super transferable. Image description - Mel and Selena interview each other and answer questions about Wasatch Sewing Collective and the workshops. Each stands in front of some sewing machines and patterns hanging on a beige wall. Mel is a light skin mixed Indigenous person in a brown button up and black hat. Selena is a brown Asian person in a light brown tshirt and rust shorts. They’re both masculine presenting nonbinary people. #wasatchsewingcollective #utahworkshop #utahsewingworkshop #lgbtworkshop #sizeinclusive

Some stills from the brief (panty) making workshop a few weekends ago! Participants made cozy everyday briefs in bamboo fabric, and compression briefs (tucking lite), for themselves or loved ones, for a variety of gender needs —some sewing for the very first time! This workshop and the others we put on this year were a collaboration between Mel Martinez of Aqua Underwear, Selena Pham of Burning Sissy Valley, Talia Parkinson, and Project Rainbow. We’re so grateful to receive grant funding to make these workshops affordable and accessible for LGBTQIA+ community! There aren’t anymore planned for this year but we’re working hard to secure more funding for 2026 —sign up for the Aqua Underwear newsletter via our website to get updates! We do have some monthly Open Sewing Studio sessions planned Sat Nov 8, Sun Dec 7, and Sat Jan 10, sliding scale $10 - 30 —head to the AU website for details and to register.

Hola, comunidad, Nelson is in need of our help. He currently is struggling to find the extra income to send to his family. Small donations of a $1 dollar can go a long way. You can help by sharing this post and or donating to his venmo. 🤲🏼❤️‍🩹

“The fashion industry often doesn’t consider the bodies of queer and trans people, and these Sewing 101 and Underwear Making Workshops empower our community with the skills to meet that need themselves,” said Mel Martinez with @aquaunderwear. “Project Rainbow’s grant was instrumental in helping us make these classes more accessible for more people.” Project Rainbow was proud to support Aqua Underwear and @burningsissyvalley in 2025, and we are excited to fund even more community-driven events in Utah in 2026! Apply for your Community Fund Grant by January 2, check our link in bio for a blog post with all the details and the forms you'll need to apply.
