๐ŸŒฒ Super fast poncho lean-to shelter in under 5 minutes and you donโ€™t need to tie a single knot!

This knotless shelter setup is one of my favorites, especially during the summer. Itโ€™s quick, simple, and perfect when you carry a quick-deploy ridgeline!

For this setup, I use my poncho together with a oilskin canvas ground cloth from @bushcraftspain

You may have seen this quick-deploy ridgeline in some of my previous posts. Itโ€™s one of my favorite DIY bushcraft gadgets! All you need is some paracord, two toggles, and three Prusik knots, I like to tie those with bank line.

I learned this quick-deploy ridgeline system from @pathfindersurvival and @blackie_thomas_channel , and I highly recommend checking out their content !

Who uses a quick deployable ridgeline as well ๐Ÿซต ?

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

Thatโ€™s what I call a perfect weekend ! beautiful nature, bushcrafting, fishing and cooking together with great people. ๐ŸŽฃ ๐Ÿ•๏ธ ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Took the @thehiddenwoodsmen Tropical Lightweight Pack for its first trip, mounted on an #ALICEPack frame something Iโ€™ve been wanting to try for a long time.
Really impressed with how it carried! The ALICE frame adds a solid backbone to an already great pack.

After setting up our oilskin shelter from @bushcraftspain , it was time to catch some food. We landed a beautiful pike, made a rich fish soup in my trusted Mors bush pot using the head and bones, and marinated the fillets to grill them Japanese yakitori-style ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต over the fire.

I love days like this! Have a great day everyone

This was (almost) the last tour for us this year. This spot on top of the little ridgeline going into the water turned out to be one of our favorite places of the year. We found it during our deep woods exploration in the middle of the year, and the best part is the wild geese flying over our spot at the same time every day Iโ€™m happy we captured them this time. ๐Ÿฆ†๐ŸŒ„

Getting more used to the camp stove for winter camping has been a good learning curve. Cooking with it meant less cleanup since thereโ€™s no ash on the gear. Using wooden blocks to lift the hot plate worked great as a toaster for our bread, which went perfectly with the stew. ๐Ÿž๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Really hope we get some snow soon - Iโ€™m ready for it! โ„๏ธ wish you all a great weekend and great camping! ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐ŸŒฒ

โš™๏ธ Poncho, Tarp, Emergency Bivy & Heat Reflector
๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด Got my hands on an original @jerven_norway Bag, the Fjellduken!

Itโ€™s such a versatile piece of outdoor gear, combining a fully waterproof poncho, bivy bag, and tarp in one! What Ia very interesting is the aluminium-coated inner layer, which reflects heat much like an emergency blanket.

I have already used it while scouting for game, and I have to say, it works very well! The reflective lining really helps retain body heat, especially when spending long periods sitting still outdoors.

Measuring 143 ร— 143 cm (56.3 ร— 56.3 inches) I canโ€™t wait to experiment with it as a shelter! My plan is to set it up with a parallel log fire in front of it and see how well the reflective lining works with the heat from the fire. I think it could make a great little variation of Mors Kochanskiโ€™s famous Super Shelter l! ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Another thing I really like is the very unique camouflage pattern. It blends so good with the rocky terrain here in Norway ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

Really looking forward to using this piece of Norwegian outdoor gear!

And a big thank you to Jmac for recommending the Fjellduken to me, and to @nordic_civilian for helping me find one here in Norway! Really appreciate it, guys! ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

๐ŸŒฒ โ€œWe do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home.โ€ Nessmuk, Woodcraft and Camping (1884)

I think Nessmuk said it best. bushcraft is about making yourself comfortable outdoors with just a few tools, knowledge and what nature provides.

Leaving a special spot ๐Ÿž๏ธ like this is always a little bittersweet, knowing you will probably never return. But that is also what makes the memories so valuable.

Luckily, @naturaleonie recently started watercolor painting, so now we have more than just photos to remember these places by. ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒฒ

๐Ÿž๏ธ ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽจ

Time to pack up again! The bigboy @silky_saws helped out a lot on that little tour!

Time to move on! We have a lot more to explore here in Norway ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

Not sure whatโ€™s more fun, exploring by foot or with the canoe ๐Ÿ›ถ

Have a great weekend everyone ! ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

Probably the most beautiful spot we have set up camp at so far! ๐Ÿ›ถ๐Ÿž๏ธโ›บ๏ธ

Trying to split the wood down into pieces with a nice, straight grain. Makes carving fine curls a whole lot easier! ๐Ÿชต

The view across the water towards the mountains is so awesome . And once again, it was a great opportunity to put out bushcraft skills to the test.

Setting up the tarp was a bit tricky due to the rocky ground, and getting a fire going in the rain was another challenge of its own.
Swipe to see how we got our fire going! ๐Ÿ‘‰

#bushcraft #norway #wildcamping #tarp #canoe

Managed to find some reasonably dry wood and used my @silky_saws Bigboy to cut it down into manageable pieces. ๐Ÿชš๐ŸŒฒ

Feather stick time! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ช

I just love carving feather sticks. And I canโ€™t stress enough how important it is to practice this skill regularly. Itโ€™s one of those simple skills that really pays off !

Time to fish ๐ŸŽฃ

@naturaleonie asking for some fresh water ๐Ÿน also the sun came out a little ๐Ÿ˜

Gotta love the rain

A rainy canoe camp in Norway ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ›ถ with rocky ground and a plough-point tarp setup.

We went out with the canoe and found a good spot close to the river with a great view ๐Ÿž๏ธ It was my first time using the @pathfindersurvival nylon tarp and I am very happy with it so far.

The pitch was a bit tricky because of the rocky ground and the lack of suitable trees. The quick-deploy ridgeline made it easy to adjust the setup, and we used one of the canoe paddles as a center support to get some extra height and a solid pitch. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

I like this tarp configuration a lot because you only need 3 tent pegs.

For the groundsheet I used the canvas groundsheet from @bushcraftspain . The dimensions work good with the tarp.

Camp is up. Next job is getting the fire going ๐Ÿ”ฅ, then weโ€™ll try our luck fishing ๐ŸŽฃ.

Hopefully the rain clears later and we get a bit of Norwegian sun. โ˜€๏ธ

Thank you @nathanvalentine_07 for recommending me that tarp!

Have a good weekend, everyone. ๐ŸŒฒ

๐Ÿ”๏ธ Hiking, exploring and plenty of wild game scouting in the mountains of Norway.๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

I kept my @steiner.optik.adventure binoculars in the bino pouch from @fhfgear , which made it easy to have them close and ready whenever we spotted something. We mainly saw deer, found plenty of tracks and droppings, and even spotted a moose far away in the distance. ๐ŸฆŒ๐ŸซŽ

I also brought my trekking poles again. On long hikes in the mountains, they have become an important part of my kit. They save a lot of energy, especially over longer distances and on difficult terrain. They are also very useful for setting up a tarp or tent, especially in areas like this where there are hardly any trees. ๐Ÿฅพโ›บ

Norway is a beautiful country, and I especially enjoyed this camp by the mountain lake. have a great day everyone ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ง How I collect and filter my drinking water while hiking in Norway ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด
There are countless mountain streams here, so finding fresh water is usually not a problem. The water is probably fine to drink straight from the stream, but I prefer to filter it anyway.
My @thegrayl water filter is always in easy reach on the side of my backpack, and filtering water is part of my daily routine when i am outdoors. What I also like about the titanium version is that I can use the outer cup to boil water or make myself some tea. ๐Ÿต
One thing I really appreciate about Norway is the abundance of water. There are streams and rivers almost everywhere, which is very convenient when hiking, as I donโ€™t have to carry too much water with me.
Water is usually one of the heaviest things in my pack, so being able to refill along the way makes a big difference. ๐ŸŽ’

๐ŸŒฒ A look inside my French Trade Haversack!

Currently exploring Norway with my haversack from @thehiddenwoodsmen . ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

I like to keep my kit simple and travel light, especially when Iโ€™m out exploring for the day. I try to carry versatile gear that I actually use and that doesnโ€™t weigh me down.

A map, compass, and binoculars are always part of my setup, especially when exploring unfamiliar places or looking for wildlife.

Hereโ€™s what else I carry in my haversack and why. Swipe through! ๐Ÿงญ๐ŸŒฒ #loadout

This is what it looks like packed. A few smaller items are in my jacket and pants pockets. The next slides show everything I carry. โžก๏ธ

Map ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ and compass ๐Ÿงญ of the area.

8x42 binoculars for scouting the area and observing wildlife. Spotted an Elk ๐ŸซŽ on my first day here in Norway ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

US Poncho from @helikontex ! Big fan of that poncho, makes a great shelter if you want to rest a bit, make a fire and drink some tea

My Tenskum Bush Tool I forged last year + my leatherman, Strop and ferro rod

Canโ€™t go out with some good snacks! Really enjoying this Elk sausage ๐ŸซŽ

@exotac makes these great, simple and small helpers. Big fan of the lighter sleeve and the pocket field repair kit with needle, thread and gorilla tape

I like to carry the small @silkyeurope pocket to process some fire wood or even collect a tree burl when I find one

Super light and simple headlight with a red light option :)

I often use the poncho to make a quick shelter, never leave with out mit Quick deployable ridgeline :)

Really like this incredibly light waterfilter from @katadyn_group - here are plenty of water sources in Norway ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

Simple first aid โ›‘๏ธ kit and hygiene wipes

This canteen from @keitheurope fits very well in my haversack and I love to make tea with the nesting cup while being outside

Honorable mention: all the things you can craft beeing outdoors- for example this wedge is a great helper and works incredibly well to split big parts of wood :)

Last slide !! the best things come last!

Camp cooking with the @trangia_sweden . ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

This time we made one of our favorite outdoor meals lentil soup with smoked sausage.

Potatoes, carrots, onions and lentils cooked in the pot, while I fried the sausage in the pan and added it at the end.

A really simple meal, but so good outside. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I also really like how compact the whole setup from @scandicoutdoor is. Everything packs together nicely and itโ€™s easy to carry along for a trip.

NESSMUK SHELTER CLOTH

๐ŸŒฒ Another day, another shelter setup ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

This time itโ€™s one of my most-used configurations: a quick-deploy ridgeline lean-to. But instead of my usual poncho,I brough the Genuine Nessmuk Oilskin Tarp, inspired by the shelter cloth used by the legendary George Washington Sears, better known as Nessmuk. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

At roughly 2 ร— 2.5 meters, a simple piece of kit, but that isexactly what I like about it. Nessmuk himself favored a waterproofed cotton shelter cloth during his travels, and more than a century later the idea still works just as well.

I am using my quick deploy ridgeline again - learned that from @pathfindersurvival also checkout out his YouTube series โ€žin the shadows of Nessmukโ€œ itโ€™s awesome!

Iโ€™m a big fan of the oilskin gear from @bushcraftspain Yes, itโ€™s heavier than modern synthetic tarps, but thereโ€™s something about natural materials that just feels great in the woods. - especially the warm light when the sun shines through the canvas. ๐ŸŒฒโ˜€๏ธ

Itโ€™s a good reminder of one of Nessmukโ€™s most important lessons:

โ€œWe do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it.โ€
