🌟 All Hail Our Queen, Ahava! 🌟

This summer has been tough on our sweet diva, Ahava. As a 130lb Newfoundland approaching 13 years old this winter, she doesn't handle the heat so well, and it's hard to watch her slow down, even though the sparkle in her eyes will always be there, and I still see baby 35-pound little panda hava 🐾❤️

We spent several weeks in a hotel in NJ while Mama had a contract there. To make life easier for both Ahava and me, we opted for a ground-floor unit and took a break from her therapy dog work to escape the heat. But Ahava never truly takes a break from being the queen! She immediately made friends with the residents and staff at the hotel, greeting everyone with her warm-hearted spirit.

One of her favorite friends was a big burly guy covered in tattoos, who carried a hint of sadness in his eyes. They connected instantly, and Ahava melted his heart in the way only she knows how. I let him know when Ahava would be out, and he raced to see her—sharing his life story while she leaned in, bringing comfort just by being her fabulous self.

Throughout our time at the hotel, I enjoyed many deep conversations with Ahava over coffee on the lawn and realized it’s time for her to retire from her therapy dog duties this winter. With tears in my eyes, I promised to arrange a few final shifts for her to say goodbye to her favorite people, but I want to ensure everything is on her terms. We’ll find ways for her to enjoy outings, but only when she’s wants .

Currently, Ahava has a mast cell tumor that is cancerous. While she’s handling it well and is a good candidate for surgery, we’re torn about the risks, especially at her age. We’ve decided to reassess in the fall, monitoring her closely .

We let Good Dog know her retirement plan, I reached out to my friend Ramon, who has a magical eye for capturing genuine moments to ensure we caught every bit of her senior glory, and he did just that ! 📸 @ward8studios

While it's hard to see our beloved pups transition from our babies to our elders, Ahava is still here, and I want to celebrate her.

Her exact retirement date is tbd this fall So, let’s throw our queen one incredible retirement party! 🎉 taken in Brooklyn, New York by @butchpacklife

My Sweet Shenhav 🤍 My giant oak tree: strength, endurance, stability — you embodied all of it.

You came into my life in 2020, just after my first miscarriage, when my world had stopped. Your rescue profile said you were “depressed.” The second I held you, my heart knew otherwise. You didn’t need fixing — you needed your tribe. And once you found us, you became our joyful, grounded little king.

In 2022, we began a long battle with chronic ear disease. Head tilt procedures, setbacks — some said it was time to give up. But you were clear: you still had life to live. And you did. Four beautiful years beyond expectations. In 2023, I broke my back and sustained a TBI. And you — my resilient warrior — became my greatest teacher. Through your adaptation and courage, you showed me that small steps, support, and hope make anything possible. We healed side by side, learning how to live in bodies that didn’t always cooperate. By accepting our disabilities we could then work with them rather than against them.

We healed in parallel, adapted to our disabilities side by side — pushing each other, understanding without words, and enjoying our food together no matter what our bodies were doing. You taught me that labels don’t define us. That “impossible” isn’t true. That we choose how to live, how to love, how to endure.

May you be fully free from the body that failed you, sweet warrior king.

Be light. Be whole Binky free

I love you forever and always, my wise little oak tree . Thank you for everything .🌿

Thank you Marianne @rabbitcarevirtualsupport @onderdogsandcats @catnipandcarrotsvethospital Dr Saver and Dr Campbell and @klaprof @yonirk_play and Sara. Because of this team we were gifted time 🧡 and ALL of Shnehavs helpers ! by @butchpacklife

BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN

After ten incredible years, I had the honor of sharing the stage once again with my dear friend and coach, the legendary Chris McDaniel! @chrisbuffbill

Reflecting on this performance brings a mix of emotions. It's challenging to see photos of myself as an aging acrobat. My body has endured more than I ever anticipated over the past few years—perimenopause, pregnancy losses, a company collapse, the loss of my identity, and an accident that introduced me to disabilities I’m still learning to navigate.

At times, I feel unworthy of standing on that stage, knowing I'm a far cry from where I used to be. But despite the scars and changes, I remind myself that I’m still here, and the joy I once felt in flight and play still resides within me.

If I pause and look beyond the surface, I see something else: a genuine smile, the thrill of reconnecting with an apparatus I hadn’t touched in years, and the joy of sharing this moment with a dear friend.

I’ve changed so much, but the spirit of that girl I thought was fully lost remains deep within me. In moments of play and reconnection, I can rediscover that part of myself, even if just for a fleeting two minutes.

Thank you, Chris, for standing alongside this lil’ ole acrobat all these years ! 🌈 thank you Jacob for the lift and encouragement also side Mari ! @_jacob_mckee_ @mak.a_r_t

thank you again Ramon for the captures

🌟 Honoring Dolly & Reuniting on Stage! 🌟
Join us in celebrating the incredible Dolly Parton as we reunite Chris McDaniel with the ABCirque family at the Brooklyn Children's Museum! 🎉

In 2009, I transitioned from dance to circus on a Dolly Parton show at Dollywood, where she graciously joined us on stage for opening night. In 2010, I met Chris while working on the off-Broadway show Caligula Maximus, where he was the whip coach and I was "Little Poison." Chris first placed a whip in my hands, igniting my buffalo gals heart.

From gigs in 2010 to ABCirque's Wild West at the Muse in 2016, a deep friendship blossomed.

Dolly embodies kindness and unity, connecting us all through her music and spirit. It’s an honor to pay tribute to her alongside Chris, a talented performer whose artistry, much like Dolly’s, has enchanted audiences worldwide.

Chris McDaniel, a renowned trick roper and bullwhip artist, combines trick roping, singing, and charm—having even appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman! His impressive career spans venues from the Grand Ole Opry to Broadway.

Join us for this heartfelt tribute alongside our youth troupe, ABCirque Pros and Lavon & Oona, ABCirque’s resident singers as we honor Dolly the only way we know how via circus !

A year into my healing journey, as I was learning more about my brain injury and PTSD, Romeo decided to scout our house and take the plunge into our yard with our bear dogs to move in! 🐾

He’s my “brain manager,” helping me slow down when my body’s rhythm is off. When I have tremors or head pain, he wraps around my head and face, patting me and purring to help me calm down and reset.

Of course, as soon as I start to feel better, his playful, mischievous side bursts out in full tiger mode—he knows we can’t take life too seriously for long! 😹

I love and adore my little shadow, who keeps Baloo’s spirit alive in the house with the funniest antics. I'm so grateful that the girl who was once told her allergies were too bad for cats now has one following her around full-time—wrapped around both her head and heart! ❤️

Here are a few snapshots of my not-so-little Romeo, captured by Ramon Frias.

✨ Tiki Appreciation Post ✨

Today, I want to celebrate Tiki, one of the most nuanced and loyal companions I've ever had. With her self-appointed title as the “glue of the pack,” she has a way of checking in on everyone often needing to be in physical contact with as many as possible. Her secret middle name, "Ohana," (Family ) perfectly reflects her spirit—nobody gets left behind or forgotten. 🐾❤️

Tiki and I are on a parallel journey, mirroring each other as we navigate our anxieties and fears. Through the years with the incredible guidance of trainers Anthony and Lindsay, we’ve developed a protocol to help me manage Tikis leash reactivity, and protocol for selective introductions allowing her to enjoy playdates with friends like Banjo. Their expertise has shown me that Tiki isn't a bad dog; she simply has clear boundaries and can be trusted more then I realized.

After my accident, I lost confidence in MY ability to manage Tiki’s needs and my fears and anxieties increased, which affected our training progress and increased Tikis sense something is wrong . With the upcoming addition of Sugi my SDIT, early introductions for Tiki and Sugi with Anthonys intro outline that Tiki Suceeded with before and Lindsays expert guidance we had severla successful intros and playdates before Sugis two week bonding at home with us .

As we move forward together, I’m filled with gratitude for Tiki’s unwavering loyalty to me and the pack , I also can acknowledge what a privilege it is to have the support from our trainers . We keep each trainers words and lessons close to us and do our best to maintain, practice and continue learning to best support the pack .

I can’t wait to see the bond between Tiki and Sugi grow as well .
The future is bright as we heal in so many ways and Thank you TIKI for teaching me we can trust ourselves when and if we set things up safley and its ok to " let some in" <3

These animals are our healers , our teacher snad greatest reflections of lesson our souls need .

Here’s to our journey of trust, love, and healing! 🌈💕

Marking three years since my accident—a day that forever changed my life—the timing aligned beautifully with my service dog in training, Sugi, visiting for bonding. Yoni and I attended a Kintsugi workshop at @fougallery with the amazing @makomako.kintsugi .

Sugi, a golden retriever, embodies the golden joinery of Kintsugi, where broken pieces are repaired with gold, to celebrate imperfections rather than hiding them.

While my disabilities are mostly invisible, having a service dog creates a visible cue, which can be challenging but also incredibly helpful. Living with a dog makes facing the struggles of invisible disabilities much more manageable for me.

It felt fitting to explore Kintsugi on this significant anniversary, as its philosophy resonates deeply with my healing journey. Under the guidance of the inspiring Makimako, we discovered Kintsugi not just as a craft, but as a powerful practice. One impactful takeaway was, "Every crack tells a story." I chose to work on a piece with minimal "visible damage", opting to add more layers or emphasize the snallest imperfections i noticed , reminding me that our wounds, like cracks in pottery, can tell beautiful stories.

I truly appreciate that each piece of Kintsugi art I’ve seen becomes more beautiful and intriguing after its repairs. This process transforms what was once broken into something uniquely different and often more interesting.

Sometimes, pieces are lost forever, leaving a void that may be exposed or filled with something new—much like our human journeys through grief. Like broken pottery, we all carry our damages and imperfections. In those moments of shattering, we have the opportunity to rebuild our reality.

Let’s embrace every story and every scar—each one makes us stronger. 💛

🌟 Three Years Since the Accident: A Time for Reflection 🌟

As I mark three years since my life-changing accident, this week has been a poignant reminder of how quickly everything can change. I've shed tears I thought I'd blocked away.

First, we have two weeks of bonding with my service dog, Sugi, before she returns to training. A recent vet scare turned out to be a false alarm—thank goodness! It echoed my past experiences, reminding me that life can pivot in an instant. We're so relieved she's safe.

I also attended a memorial for a fellow artist who took his own life. It cracked my heart open to the pain many of us carry, especially for those of us whose livelihoods rely on our bodies.

Amidst these challenges, reuniting with my dear friend Chris McDaniel brought me joy. Our profound connection allows us to support each other, creating a sacred space for vulnerability and honesty about our struggles.

These experiences activated buried emotions, a reminder that we all face challenges. As I approach three years of healing, I'm pushing myself too hard while juggling work. I need to manage my rest and recovery to truly enjoy this second chance at life.

We are here for a limited time, and the greatest gift is our connection with others. Here’s to entering my fourth year of rehabilitation with more forgiveness, love, and acceptance. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @butchpacklife
