This is all I want for Christmas!! A few years ago my daughter and I went ice skating on Christmas Day in Coronado and I wish we made that an annual tradition, but it’s never too late to start one! 🦋 Right now I’m feeling extremely overwhelmed with all this holiday stuff, working on the non profit, still making and taking celery juice to my grandma which is about an hour drive round trip and of course I stay and chat AND my freshman/black belt daughter almost got in her first self defense fight yesterday. So many things and emotions going on I just want this carefree Charlie Brown Christmas. 🦋 Several years ago my daughter and I started an annual Christmas cookie exchange and it was so fun! However, with all my health issues and moving around we stopped for a few years but started back up last year. Now with COVID it is small but intimate. This is the calm relaxing evening I’m looking forward to and church Christmas party tomorrow. 🦋 With all the hustle and bustle just writing this has given me a bit of serenity. Happy Sunday!! I hope all your warriors had a great weekend!! 🦋 Earlier tonight I was listening to my worship playlist, driving to the grocery store. I can’t help but feel so much gratitude for how far I’ve come in this life. Growing up I had a pretty good life but if I had asked my 8 year old self where I’d see myself in 30 years, I probably fantasized I would have more but I never would have imagined I could survive what it takes to get here. 🦋 I was a single mom from day one. That alone was a struggle then add an apartment with mold, stage 4 thyroid cancer/parathyroids. We moved 7 times in 6 years. I had been in the car business for about 17 years and decided to go into sales. Whoa!!! What was I thinking?! 🦋 I’m thankful for every experience and struggle along the way! Without those I would not have gained all the strength and determination I have today. As I wrap up the weekend and plan for my busy week ahead I know I have all of you warriors in mind. YOU are on my to do list because this non profit does not run on social media. Many times I feel like throwing in the towel but then I remember how far I’ve come. How much work and time I’ve already invested. How many people want to see me fail and I go grab the bull by the horns. 🦋 As we head into the weekend I plan to set mindful intentions to be happy and grateful. And like I have been for the last few weeks setting my weekly calendar and goals for the week. 🦋 I was just talking with a friend who recently moved out of state and when we hung up she said “let’s talk this weekend” probably not something I would have intended for since we just talked but I was also recently introduced to a concept of scheduling a day and time to do this once a week so there are no excuses. Have the intention it’s like a Dr appointment and show up for your friends and family that might need you. So when I talk to my friend again this weekend I will suggest this. Have a day and time in mind that works for you Kari lol Love you!! 🦋 I have also been texting a lot with my cousin and she’s one person that inspires me so much. She will always text me on Sunday and say “Happy Sunday Funday” text me on Monday and say “Have a great week cousin” and today I received my weekly Friday text to have a great weekend! If you don’t have people like this in your life, be that person. You can encourage and be an inspiration to someone and not even know it. Be the light. Be someone’s light because I guarantee you once you start a routine you will attract more of this into your life. Today, I connected with ANOTHER Thyroid Cancer Survivor. This is continual proof, for me and hopefully for you, of how many are really affected by this disease. If you have not personally been affected by it please take the time to understand how aggressive it can be. 🦋 I’ve continued to pursue this dream and goal of providing emotional and financial support to Thyroid warriors along with research despite of how others may try to discourage me. Over the last two months I’ve made more progress, more connections and networked for @butterflyaffect_thyroidaware more than I have since I started it over 3 years ago. I’m beyond happy to have made all of this progress. I can finally see it taking off the ground and I’m excited for what is to come in 2022 and beyond! 🦋 These two months have allowed me to connect and develop relationships with women I’ve probably passed in the grocery store and never thought I’d connect with. I have so much opportunity and resources at my fingertips and I am beyond grateful for this. 🦋 One lady I met this morning, a fellow Thyroid Cancer Survivor, I initially perceived her as discouraging and even a little negative at how she came off as insinuating this organization doesn’t necessarily serve a huge purpose in the Thyroid community since my story is “extremely unique”. She also said we were fortunate to have the “good cancer” which is a term I despise because no cancer is good to have. Well!! I do plan to share my story again soon for those that are new here or may have missed it but I also learned from this woman, after talking with her awhile, that she understood @butterflyaffect_thyroidaware as an organization to raise awareness and provide emotional & financial support for Thyroid “Cancer” Survivors. I am here to assure you this organization supports any Thyroid related disease. Anyone affected. We are all in this together. Even my family suffers because of my inability to function on some days. If your family is also healing with you, they belong here too. There is so much we are healing from and the more our friends and family understand about our disease they more they can help us. 🦋 So on that note. What Thyroid related topics are you most interested in learning about? There are so many more than listed above so please remember it is not limited to this list and I’d be happy to share any information I find. Today’s topic is Calcium!! It isn’t always necessarily found in dairy 🤔 🦋 I was on my beach walk this morning and as I was leaving I had a shortness of breath episode. This was different from all the other episodes since I was experiencing SOB but not the muscle cramping, which was how I initially recognized my low electrolytes (specifically calcium). 🦋 If you are like me and had your parathyroids removed at the time of TT, or ever, you need to know, if you don’t already, Calcium is CRUCIAL!!! 🦋 Calcium is not only responsible for strong bones and teeth but it is also responsible for proper muscle and heart function. Heart function!! Something most of us would not have thought of, I know I didn’t. 🦋 I had to pull over several times this morning on my way home to take calcium. Each time I thought I was okay and got back in my car only to have blurred vision, light headedness, SOB and muscle cramping. Totally not safe to drive. Thankfully for my mindfulness I’m aware of when I need help. 🦋 I made it to Costco for Calcium pills that are more absorbent than Tums. Be mindful of that too. After 6 years I learned Tums are not a significant source of Calcium. Also, most foods will not provide the amount of daily Calcium we may need without our parathyroids. 🦋 While we are on the topic of electrolytes, magnesium is required to convert vitamin D and vitamin D is required to covert calcium. Well what about potassium? That may be tomorrow’s topic. Electrolytes are so tricky but so much tricker with Thyroid disease. 🦋 Prayers for all Cancer warriors always but especially my Thyroid Warriors!!! Happy Monday Thyroid warriors! 🦋 What are some tools and/or questions you have about your journey? 🦋 My job is to enlighten you as much as I can. To inspire you. To educate you to the best of my knowledge/experience. 🦋 Just this morning I learned about #HurthleCellCarcinoma that is a rare cancer that affects the Thyroid gland. Where do you buy your celery? I usually always get mine from sprouts or a Mexican market I like to shop at. However, my daughter recently suggested a new store for other items so while I was there yesterday I picked up celery. 🦋 This bunch is so small and so are each stalk!! It was half the price but also only produced half the amount of juice. I had to cut and rinse two more bunches for my daughter. Not only that it tasted like dirt. It was also slightly bitter even though I cut off the leaves. 🦋 Never again will I stray from my tried and true. 🦋 Happy Friday warriors!
