On April 19th, I’ll be sharing my heart with @namnam_space, in the form of screening my short films Home, & The Quiet One, as well as performing a vocal number I’ve been working on for a bit of time.

It’s titled “I Can”, and it honestly feels like the most vulnerable work I’ve done in a long time. In this piece I’m returning to my voice, stretching its limits, and expanding on its capabilities. I’m returning to the runs of the church and channeling rifts to show my sincerest commiseration to the parts of me that struggle to be seen.

I’m excited for many reasons: Performing a new piece that has pushed me to a new type of expression, It’s my first solo show, I’m going to be in the company of amazing human beings, and I’ll be in a place I’ve wanted to travel to for some time now.

I’m looking forward to connecting with everyone who can make it.

A portion of the donations will go to @DeeepSpaceCraft , a BLACK & INDIGENOUS safe space in New Orleans, that offers: Protection and shelter for the Black, Indigenous, queer, trans, intersex community in the event of an emergency, prioritizing folks living with disabilities.

4月19日、@namnam_space で僕は心を暴露します。短編映画『わが家』と『おとなしい子』の上映に加え、長い間取り組んできたボーカルのパフォーマンスを披露します。

タイトルは「僕にはできる」です。正直、ここしばらくで最も心の内をさらけ出した作品だと思います。この作品では、自分の声に立ち返り、その限界を広げ、可能性を拡張します。見られずにいる自分の内面を真剣に哀れむことを示すため、教会の聖歌隊で培った声のリフを再び取り入れます。

新たな表現へ僕をやらせた作品が披露できるし、初めてのソロ公演だし、素晴らしい人々と会えるし、長年訪れたいと願っていた場所に行けるので、たくさんの理由で本イベントを期待しています。

そして皆さんと会えることを楽しみにしています。

Masters of Completion: Punishment for Existence

* A technical standard is an established norm or requirement for a repeatable technical task which is applied to a common and repeated use of rules, conditions, guidelines or characteristics… 

Masters of Completion: Punishment for Existence is a durational performance piece that involves the writing of “Lines”, or “Standards” for an extended period of time, as a form of corporal punishment, and cognitive adjustment. Masters of Completion: Punishment for Existence symbolizes how strategically disadvantaged individuals are punished for their existence in society. The punishment isolates the “offender” from the community and makes an example of them by showing the consequences of living outside of the binary, and not conforming to imperialist and fascist standards. Such consequences may vary (not limited to one at a time): lack of health resources, lack of safety, living in food apartheid areas, imprisonment, death etc.

I will be engaging in this punishment on March 11th, 20th, & 28th, from 11am - 4pm. I will be at 3 different public locations throughout Berlin (2 in Neukölln & one in Prenzlauer Berg), and will post the location 4 days prior to the performance date. So make a note.

Questions to consider:
- What does it mean to be punished for existing in society?
- What are some consequences you have faced as a result of existing in this society?

Cat Jones is a multimedia artist, durational performer and independent curator whose work is rooted in self-acceptance/critique, and reflection. His work centers his interpersonal dialogue with the internal & external world, while highlighting his exchange with familial ties, corporal punishment, & (self) observation. As a vocal architect, he uses his voice as an instrument for therapeutic reenactments; some literal, others symbolic of the experiences of systemically disadvantaged individuals globally.

Heaux Tales: Nighttime Liberation
Nightlife should be a sanctuary for those of us who live unapologetically. Nighttime Liberation will be an intimate evening intended to honor our stories. Performers—SWorkers, activists, and scholars alike—will share original writings born from nights of liberation, lust, and letting go. Come ready to listen to tales of dancefloor revelations, darkroom glances, strangers finally becoming acquainted, and much, much more.

Part of this week's #tagderclubkultur of events this mini show takes place at the cozy Ashawo Cafe in Berlin Wedding.

Entry is €5 euro plus mandatory sliding scale membership. We didn't get funding for this year’s show, so please show up and support!

Spirit.
Call and Response.
Sometimes I pick up and sometimes I sit and ignore the call.

It was ringing at this waterfall I snuck away to in Sagamihara, Japan.

Sometimes that trip feels like a fever dream. But this stays with me. I performed for others in Tokyo, and they were special moments. And it’s interesting that this “performance” happens to be my most precious. Maybe it’s because my inner child was able to wander off and land in a place that I wasn’t supposed to be. And play. And let myself be curious about what I could create and how I could be in harmony with the environment. Maybe it’s an only child thing.
Shoutout to my baby @bigbrainbozo_ and my new friend @thedandelion.rma for reminding me of spirit.

“We Make Years Out of Hours” Performance at @hamburger_bahnhof

I’m extremely blessed to be in the company of beautiful artists and build a supportive community with these people. I’ve had many moments of self reflection, tension, frustration, joy and so many more feelings. We are a group of individuals giving our all each and every time.

This piece has many meanings. But one that’s important to me is the message of solidarity and unity. Holding each other up despite the challenges and chaos that we face on a daily.

So come one of these days and catch me and 11 other artists sing, build, and commune with each other and the public.
