The final stage: project photography 📸

As my last magic trick on a project, I sprint to photography. 😅 You’d be surprised but it’s not always a photo finish. Throughout a project SOMETHING will happen. We might run on schedule but to have a space totally free and clear is tough to manage, especially when my clients are so eager to move in (I cannot blame them with all of the factors - typically a rental home, a personal timeline, little ones who need routine). However, It’s so important to document my work and capture my projects so there’s always some give and take to make it work! I also helped @eternobuilders.htx with photography for a new build in Garden Oaks. It was a busy week for @katygrantphoto and I 🙃

Although it seems intuitive, I never assume photography is an easy day. I put a lot of thought into exactly what I want to showcase. I craft a shot list of angles that are impactful and I like to highlight design details to share with future clients. Add in some light staging (towels, candles, soap, etc.) and all of a sudden, it turns into a production!

Mostly, I’m happy to share this Timbergrove project in the coming weeks! Although Timbergrove wasn’t initially a target neighborhood from me, over the past year I’ve helped 3 wonderful families transform their spaces. It makes me so happy when they are able to move in and enjoy!

Moving right along - Watching all the little decisions become the big picture. 🤎

The details are starting to do their thing—white oak, warm stone, soft tile, clean lines and a very important floor stain decision.

There’s something so satisfying about watching selections that once lived on a screen and samples finally become a home. More to come ✨

Chartreuse and 🍫 brown for fall? Groundbreaking.

Waking up to a slightly cooler and less humid day inspired me to unbox some new fall pieces! When I saw these jeans, I loved the cut and subtle leopard overlay in velvet. I can see myself wearing these so many ways!

I also have two speeds when sourcing for my own closet - staple workhorses in multiple colors or something totally fresh that still feels like me. This cashmere sweater has a puff sleeve and pattern that brings interest but not too much “trend”. I love the color and it’s perfect for transitional dressing!

This Balenciaga bag is one of my favorites and is almost 15 years old 😱 Cannot believe that they are back in style but I’ve never stopped carrying it! The flats are my one brighter/lighter element in this look to draw the eye!

A study of materiality and tying everything together - mixed metals and woods! 🤎🤍

To create depth and an intentional approach, I used two stains on white oak. The railing mimicked walnut, matching another focal point in the home - the kitchen island. The floors’ lighter tone compliments the depth and warmth of the darker stain.

For the metal balusters, this home utilized brass in so many hardware settings. The contrast of black, in this area only, created a more transitional aesthetic.

The finishing touch was wainscoting panels on the lower third of any dry wall areas. Simple and beautiful!

✨END OF AN ERA✨

I’ve hosted my last meeting, entered my final order, walked my project’s punch. After 8 successful years, I am waving farewell to my commercial furniture career.

I initially started at DEBNER, unsure as to what a furniture dealership actually did. I was just happy to work close to home (3 minutes from our previous office), bring my dog (and cat) to work, and use a different part of my brain that hadn’t been tapped in a while. We also hosted the best events, had a kitchen full of food (somehow I avoided the “DEBNER 15”), and half-day Fridays. It sounded like a pretty good gig for a 20-something who just wanted to have FUN! And did I have fun - besides the hard work, I lived in the glory days of Knoll, traveled for training and trade shows, made the best of friends. Going to work felt like the good part of college, which for me was going on campus every day to the sorority house. Rarely, did I have a bad day and I’ve never been alone, which was huge for me as I don’t have family in Houston.

I didn’t realize that this “job” would turn into a great CAREER. I have been trained by the best in the business, soaking up every design and sales skill along the way. All I can say is THANK YOU.

Oh, and the next stop? I will continue in corporate sales with a focus on financial software and transactions. I am looking forward to seeing all my accounting and banking buddies again! And I’ll continue what I enjoy the most - building relationships and winning business in Houston’s competitive market.

All in all, what a gift to be moving into the third phase of my career at 35. It’s never too late to learn something new. To start fresh in your professional or personal life. To redirect your focus. To fail and fall forward. To foster creativity in a different way. I am so grateful for all of it (and all of you) for bringing me here. 🤍🙏🏼👋🏼

Model for a day ☺️ stripes forever, duh!

Surprisingly, I don’t wear mini dresses often but this one just feels like me! Maybe it’s the classic collar and stripe, but this is definitely a “throw and go” that makes me feel dressed with just one piece! Will link in my stories.
