Y’all. We all know i have a lot of ink. And all of my tattoos mean something important to me. But this piece by @raimi.kintsugi was so deeply emotional. The usual conversation wasn’t possible because I couldn’t talk, so I spent the hours deep in reflective space.

The abuse. The secrets. The ways I couldn’t and wouldn’t speak. The shame. The fear.

Healing. Connecting my heart and my voice. Loving the younger me who was hurt and scared. Reminding myself that I’m safe. That I can trust. Transformation.

Thank you @raimi.kintsugi for being on this journey with me, and for creating art that I will carry forever, reminding me of who the fuck I am.

But you’re in Atlanta where @blackvotersmtr and @_ashdashlee_ is telling us what we’re going to do to early vote AND that we’re going to stay active after the election too.

I met the sweetest 92yo Black woman while early voting in Georgia today.

Her hair was white and in cute box braids.

She would have been born around 1934. During Jim Crow.

She would have been in her 30’s during the Civil Rights Movement.

So yes I was excited to vote for Jon Ossoff.

But I was thinking about her while I was voting for thirteen Black candidates, TWELVE Black women.

In a room full of Black folks and Black women poll workers.

If you’re a white person who’s never had the experience of what it means to vote in + with a community you’re not part of, but who know what it actually means to not have a vote at all…

When your vote is bigger than just you…

When you can look into the eyes of a person whose vote they want to take away again… and stand shoulder to shoulder with them at the ballot box…

I hope you’ll never again take for granted the responsibility of voting, who your vote impacts, and what real solidarity looks like every day.

Vote… AND. We have a lot further to go.

We can’t let those who want to repeat history win.

Joining over 400,000 Georgians who have already early voted and are smashing records.

We’re voting like our lives depend on it. Because they do.

We’re voting for a Georgia and a country where everyone matters.

We’re voting for public schools where our children can receive high quality education.

We’re voting so data centers and corporate profits aren’t stealing our land and water.

We’re voting so our power bills aren’t hijacked by utility companies and their shareholders, forcing us to choose between rent and power.

We’re voting so AI and surveillance cameras aren’t invading our privacy at every moment.

We’re voting for better healthcare and jobs with liveable wages.

We’re voting to protect elections and for government officials who will ensure voters are represented by fair maps, not gerrymandering and party loyalty.

We’re voting because we care and because we know the will of the people is greater than billionaires.

Like Dolly said… we’re voting “with a little love in our hearts” because we know that together we really can make the world a better place.

We don’t need treasonous liars in office.

We don’t need billionaires who are willing to lie, cheat, buy, or strongman their way into public office. We already know what Donald Trump is going.

Rick Jackson is blatantly telling us who he is. He’s committed to continuing Donald Trump’s agenda and gutting any programs and services that are actually helpful to working class, every day Georgia residents.

Frustrated with your Georgia Power bills and worried about data centers?

There’s a lot we can do for these midterm elections.

Because the Public Service Commission, the House Utilities & Telecommunications Committee, county, and city elected officials are all responsible for creating policy and approving these large power and infrastructure projects.

And they can just be projects that benefit the wealthy and powerful.

Land use, water consumption, power infrastructure, and taxation structure all are considerations that impact not just our power bills, but our every day lives as well.

And Georgia residents deserve to have a say in these decisions.

My daughter’s top of mind:

1. Littering. How do we teach people about littering? Policy connections: mental health support, community education, literacy education

2. Climate change, temperatures rising (the summers are so hot now mom).
Policy connections: deforestation, data centers, local composting program, solar energy, more reusable things, less things/less trash

3. Unhoused/homelessness: Everyone should have a home. People living in tents doesn’t make any sense. Policy issues: mental health support, affordable housing, living wages and working rights, energy process, costs of healthcare

4. Children being abused/not able to be provided for and children being depressed or sad. Policy connection: healthcare, affordable food, safe and good schools, livable wages and worker rights, affordable housing, universal prek and childcare, post partum care for mom, parental leave

5. Children in ICE detention: Policy — fuck ice 🤷🏽‍♀️

Candidate positions that connect to things she cared about: state legislators, city council, school superintendent, labor comissioner (she loves @voteporcher4ga IRL low key obsessed ), governor (who also approves the appointment of both the DNR Commissioner and the Director of the Environmental Protection Division), senator, the Congressional seats, Public service commission seats, and attorney general.

We printed and went over our ballot. And even thought we only get one vote between the two of us, my daughter knows I have listened and there will be alignment in our vote.

What’s on your children’s top of mind? Have you asked?

I invite you to do the same and then, bring them canvassing. Allow the children to be heard and accounted for.
