Boise has the chance to lead—to show that inclusion isn’t political, it’s principled. Mayor, keep the Pride flags up. Let our city be a place where everyone feels they belong—loudly and proudly. #boise #idaho #lgbtq

No one wants to be an activist. No one should have to shine a light on what is happening to their communities. No one should have to spill their traumas and grief just to get people to care. In this moment it is critical for everyone to speak up and do something for Palestine and for all colonized and oppressed people. No more waiting around, waiting for permission. Do it! Liberation will require each and every single one of us.

Still in Jamaica for a couple more days. Not enough photos, but lots of time and presence. A tiny photo dump of the last few days with people I love very much.

Sometime in the stress of all the things, I forget to be playful. I am so worried about getting things accomplished and on time and correct… I lose sight of what’s important… of my own humanity… of connection.

So thanks @tricaidaho for giving me and my kids an opportunity to be playful together, to be silly on a Friday night, and to remember how much love we have for each other and how fun it can be just to be together. 💙

Several years ago I heard an origin story of Medusa that was…. Surprise… different than what I’d always known.

In pop culture, she’s always been a monster who turns men to stone. But I’d never known how she got that way. One version of the story is that she was a devotee of Athena, who was r@p*d by Poseidon in Athena’s temple. And rather than fight HIM, Athena turned her wrath on Medusa, turning her into a monstrous gorgon and banishing her.

As a survivor myself, I felt empathy for this young woman. To be violently harmed and then punished… how common is that experience?

When the #metoo #metoomovement began artist @lucianogarbati reimagined Medusa as the victor, holding Perseus head in a reversal of justice, and it reminded me of every woman and person I know who’s been violated in this way. Who hopes for justice, resolution, healing, but who so rarely receive it.

When began my tattoo journey, I knew Medusa would hold an important place. Changing the narrative, supporting my healing, helping me to embody a bolder, fiercer version of myself who deserved to be known in new ways. She, with her raven familiar, was the beginning of my first sleeve by @dullllavender

I was so excited to see a new mural of her in Boise’s @freakalleygallery and knew I had to visit. I was delighted to find a perfect spot to light a candle and offer gratitude to healing and a warrior survivor spirit.

Thank you to @monuteaux for visiting with me and taking pics.

Reflecting on the past week. New friends. Becoming art. A work win. Beloved community and connections that are nourishing to my soul and where I know I’m deeply loved. Knowing I’m on the right path in life, with the right people, healing, learning, listening, growing.

Glimmers.

And at the same time… grief, anger, violence, devastation, fear, loss. Witnessing. All of it existing together.

All I know is that the only way to get thru this life, and to make it better for everyone, is if we stand together and speak out against injustice and oppression.

Land back.
Cease fire.
Collective liberation.
