POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I spent a lot of time yesterday looking up instead of down.

It was the first day of a tiny creative experiment I’m doing this week: changing my perspective and noticing whatever I find above me. I’m already surprised how much the practice has changed not just my vision, but the way I am thinking.

Looking up at the trees instead of at the sidewalk in front of me, I realized how few of them I actually know by name. It made me go home and start researching how to identify all the species in my neighborhood.

Looking up at the houses and buildings around me, I realized how much of the man made world above us is rigid + made of straight lines and hard edges: rooftops, windows, telephone wires, drain pipes.

The natural world, on the other hand, interrupts all of that with curves: treetops, clouds, branches, vines.

It made we wonder how often that seeps into our lives. Where are we drawing hard lines when a curve might do?

Here’s a few things I photographed on day one - more photos and insights to come. Join in, get curious + tag me if you do, I’d love to see what you’re seeing ❤️

I almost didn’t write this one.

The day got away from me, Shep finally fell asleep late, and I was very tempted to let my Tuesday post become a Wednesday post.

Instead I wrote about repetition, which, in retrospect, feels pretty fitting.

This is about the maintenance work that fills our days without leaving much evidence behind. It’s about doing things over and over even when we’re not particularly inspired, and about what becomes visible when we stick with something long enough to recognize its patterns.

A Letter On Repetition is up on Substack, link in my story + bio!

Every Tuesday, I write a letter exploring something I’ve been noticing, questioning, or learning lately. Hope to see you over there 🤍 by @bykatiebosch

A sampling of things I’ve observed on my daily walks with Shep this summer. It’s become a tiny creative practice in noticing + gathering, as well as a way back into making things during a season when personal creative time is hard to come by.

I wrote a letter on attention + letting creativity fit inside the life we already have on my latest Substack. I’m looking forward to building something more there in the coming months + committing to consistent posting moving forward ◡̈

Come subscribe/hang out, it’s a fun space to dive deeper into topics + avoid the endless scroll. 🌀 taken in Museum District, Richmond, Virginia by @bykatiebosch

These days inspiration rarely arrives the way I expect it to. Sometimes it shows up in the quiet between sleep and sunrise, in a 3am full moon shadow on a laundry room door, while holding a baby who has reoriented the way I move through the world.

Every creative season asks something different of us. This one has asked me to slow down, to notice more than I produce, and to trust that gathering is part of the work.

Summer reminds us that not everything is meant to be harvested right away. It’s a season for ripening, for lingering in long days, enjoying what’s here, and resisting the urge to rush things before they’re ready. That’s been this season’s invitation: to pay attention, to gather, to let photographs, stories, and ideas mature before asking them to become something more.

August feels like the beginning of the harvest.

It turns out attention bears fruit. by @bykatiebosch

Maybe mystery isn’t a problem to solve, maybe it’s something to pay attention to.

Every version of myself has brought me here ❤️

This account started as a place to share my photography work and while photography will always be a huge part of my life, I’ve been feeling a shift happening for a while now. Becoming a mother has only made that feeling louder.

I don’t just want to share finished work anymore. I want to share the thoughts behind it. The life around it. The questions I’ve been asking. The things I’m noticing and learning and trying to hold onto before they disappear.

Lately I’ve been craving more honesty and more depth online. Less performance. Less feeling like everything needs to be polished or optimized all the time. I think I’m more interested these days in documenting a life than building a brand.

That’s part of why I changed my name from katieboschphoto to @bykatiebosch. It may seem small, but it felt important to me. I want this space to feel more personal moving forward —more expansive and more human.

Photography will still live here, but so will writing, reflections, motherhood, creativity, memory, poetry, beauty, grief, slowness, and all the other things that shape the way I see the world.

I also started a Substack called A Slower Kind of Seeing as a place for longer thoughts, photographs, stories, and small things I don’t want to forget. Mostly, this is all just an attempt to pay closer attention to my life while I’m inside of it.

The first piece is live now if you’d like to read it. Link in bio.
