Introducing 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘴

Great stories need time, space and support to grow.

Byron Theatre Company is proud to launch 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘴, a new development program supporting Northern Rivers artists to create and develop original Australian theatre right here in the region.

Designed for creative teams with new work ready for its next stage, 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘴 offers dedicated development time, mentorship, dramaturgical support and professional resources to explore ideas, test work and discover what a project needs next.

Four projects will be selected for a three-day Development Lab at Byron Theatre, with up to two progressing to a five-day Project Residency and work-in-progress showing.

Confirmed mentors include producer Jane Fuller and award-winning director Heather Fairbairn, with guest mentors including acclaimed actor and director Wayne Blair joining artists during the Residency stage.

Whether you’re developing a new play, devised work, physical theatre, contemporary performance or something that crosses disciplines, we want to hear what you’re creating.

Expressions of Interest are now open via the link in our bio.

Applications close Sunday 1 November at 6pm.

What do you do with eternity?

Well, apparently if you're a Vampire, you go surfing.

'Vampires Surf' follows three immortal girls who have spent centuries riding waves beneath the moon, until the return of the Blood Moon calls them to Coffin Bay and an ancient prophecy threatens to change everything.

It's surf culture, supernatural adventure and friendship all in one wonderfully imaginative film from creators Luka Raubenheimer and Jaleesa Vincent.

Twenty trailblazing Australian women. One extraordinary performance.

On International Women's Day, Australian screen and stage star Rachael Beck brings 'In Her Own Words' to Byron Theatre, a moving musical tribute to some of the women who have shaped our culture. Rachael weaves her own life stories with the words of women including Ita Buttrose, Tanya Plibersek, Marcia Langton and Carlotta, just to name a few, alongside music by Aussie artists Missy Higgins, Kate Miller-Heidke, Dami Im and Kate Cebrano.

Having grown up in the Northern Rivers, Rachael has chosen to bring this special performance to Byron Bay, returning to the place and people who shaped her.

A Nobel Prize winner. Right here in Byron Bay.

It's not everyday you get the opportunity to not only meet but to sit with someone whose discoveries could help shape the future of our world.

And this November, that's exactly what's happening at Byron Theatre.

Meet Professor John M. Martinis, recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics and a pioneering scientist whose groundbreaking work is opening doors to possibilities we once thought were out of reach.

Imagine a future where computers could help scientists discover new medicine, develop extraordinary new materials or solve problems that today's most powerful machines simply can't.

It might sound like science fiction but it's the kind of future Professor John M. Martinis has spent decades working towards.

From helping lead Google's groundbreaking research to receiving one of the world's most prestigious scientific honours, his work has helped turn what once seemed impossible into reality.

And now, our Northern Rivers community has a rare opportunity to hear directly from him.

Hosted by Quantum researcher Dr. Danielle Holmes, the evening will feature Professor Martinis' Nobel lecture, followed by a discussion and an opportunity for you to ask questions.

You don't need to be a scientist to be curious about the future.

A stethoscope. A white coat. And a medical career that never involved medical school.

Akmal returns to Byron Theatre with 'My Family and Other Criminals', a standup comedy show full of stories about people who shaped his life. Think a Coptic priest who was also the local exorcist and a millionaire uncle with a very questionable use for the family garden hose...

These are lovable, crazy characters you won't forget easily and there'll be plenty more where they come from. ArtsHub says Akmal's comedic prowess "shines brightly throughout the show."

Four decades. Three musicians. Nothing prepared.

One of the world's greatest cult bands, The Necks, celebrate their 40th anniversary with their biggest Australian tour ever, presented by Top Shelf and Byron Theatre.

Hailed by the New York Times as "the greatest trio on earth", Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) have spent forty years captivating audiences with music that slowly unravels, shifts and transforms. Every Necks performance is improvised in real time, which means no two shows are ever the same.

The tour coincides with the release of 'Surf', their 24th album that's soon arriving on double LP and CD.

Music made once, then gone forever.
