Fallon Book Club shortlist!! 🤯

What an honor to share space with authors @janellebrownie
@annie_hartnett @emergencychampagne
& epic winner @backmansk on @fallontonight for @fallonbookclub 🥹

When the producers reached out to my publisher 6 weeks ago to request copies for coverage consideration, I thought... cute, but there's no way 🫣

This moment feels bigger than me.

We are witnessing the greatest humanitarian catastrophe happening in Palestine. My novel – which has taken 10 years to get to this point – is a sweet, humorous story that centers on a Palestinian American family in NYC and offers insight into how they were displaced from Jaffa in the 1940's. So lucky to have comedian @reemedan narrate the audiobook ⭐

And now, @JimmyFallon said my name and featured my debut novel on national TV!!!

What a win for #Dubai, a city that has raised me up at every stage, with support from @ahlambolooki, @Isobel, @Hind_seddiqi, @elfdubai, to @Emirates hosting me on their in-flight podcast, to @dubaiculture, to @dubaifuture, to my amazing husband @jamiltv who rolls his eyes every time my self-doubt creeps in...

Thanks to each of you for voting!!

Thank you to my publisher @henryholtbooks and my US agency @utapublishing @meredithofthemillers for believing in me - this is a day I'll never forget!

I've been waiting my whole life to say this... I'M GOING TO BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR!

I started writing this book over 8 years ago (look at the last picture)... And everyone says writing is a solitary activity, but to me, some amazing people helped me reach this milestone ❤️ My wonderful agents, editor, fellowship team, fellows, husband, family...

It looks so glorious, like an overnight success - nobody sees how hard this journey is! Proud to say I made it to this stage! Stubborn Taurus ♉

It's about time we had a story featuring a strong, funny Arab woman... This is a win for Dubai and for Arab women ❤️

Crying rn...

How do you finish writing a whole book, when nobody is making you do it and you're not getting paid for it? 😅

A first draft should be absolutely terrible. And hard. A beautiful torture 💗

Thanks @marcella.beautyartist @vladimirmarti for giving me a break from the screen and bringing a little glam into my week ❤️

I'm usually telling stories behind the camera and haven't changed my makeup routine in about 20 years 😅

I used to have a severe fear of public speaking -- even as a young journalist, I would wait until a press conference was over to ask a question rather than raise my hand.

Hated my soft voice and genuinely thought my heart was going to pop out of my chest if I had to get up on stage.

Over the decades (!) I've grown to really enjoy speaking in public. I think visibility is important for a career, and as an Arab woman.

Hope these simple tips help you - we need more positive voices in the world!

After writing two novels and working on my third, and spending all day editing stories as a magazine editor-in-chief... I hate that old adage that if you want to write: "Just write."

Its about creating systems that works for you. I wanted to share tools that helped me cross the finish line each time I had a new idea for a book. How do you know if it's good? How do you finish it?

None of these tools will write the book for you, but they can help with discipline and motivation. Writing is lonely and sharing is caring!

Save this if you're working on a manuscript and tell me what worked for you?
