The way this wedding will stay with me for the rest of my life. I still have no words to explain how blessed and honoured I felt to travel to Hangzhou, China for L&Gs celebrations. At one point I began to cry because of how lucky I felt.

Something that is super important to me is why I photograph on film 🎞️

Here are my parents over 40 years ago, getting legally married at Sutton Registry office, sometime in December (they can’t remember but with the cake and holly.. we can guess it’s Christmas time!)

In this old album they have only 14 photos from this day

1) I wholeheartedly believe in the authenticity and honesty of film. There is nothing more truthful than it. It’s not overly curated and you have to be in the moment constantly

2) there will only ultimately be about 30 photos you’ll back on for the rest of your life, over and over - they’re the ones that are true. I think of wedding photos as like art you look at in a gallery. Sometimes it is just one fleeting moment that moves you and makes you feel all the emotions. Don’t get me wrong, I love galleries of photos, but for me, I always only return to a select few that I look through often

3) I still to this day, pour over the albums my parents gathered over the years of home taken, sometimes badly exposed or out of focus, blurry photos and treasure them and their true-ness. It’s normal people, taking normal photos of ultimately normal moments that become precious with time.

I like digital photography, I admire it. I myself have all the kit for some commercial work but it’s not how I want to photograph human emotion and my work

There is an integrity and magic of film. It’s not based in advanced technology but in chemistry and miracles that bring your images to life. Sometimes it goes wrong but it’s in that imperfection that shows a humbleness.

Finally.

4) If one moment goes by - there’s always another more precious a second later. I feel this in my bones.

p.s yes my mum’s dress is amazing and NO she didn’t keep it for me. Infuriating

Siobhán and Lorcan had a destination wedding in France. "We wanted the wedding to feel personal without filling it with obvious or trending details for the sake of it. Our Irish upbringing came through particularly in the ceremony, melding our own Irish traditions with the beautiful French scenery."
