First Blue Car is the second single from Worlds Collide, the debut collaboration between Maharishi Yogo and Doc No. It’s the most fun and playful track on the album, puts me in mind of the avant-pop of Penguin Cafe Orchestra, with a simple hypnotic melody repeating throughout. Bytes is proud to be repping at the inaugural @moonbuildingmag label market, which is taking place @thesociallondon on Sunday November 1. @franz_kirmann will be joining us on the stall and I’m doing a DJ set between 5pm and 6pm. There’s also an amazing night of live music after the market, featuring @_danalogue, @iamloula and @field_lines_cartographer. Thanks to Mr Moonbuilding himself @neil_m for inviting us. In 2019, Andy Bell headed further into the electronic underground with GLOK, folding acid house, krautrock, ambient drift and shoegaze atmosphere into something hypnotic and distinctly his own. Motorik rhythms, glowing synths and slow-burn psychedelia make this ideal territory for fans of leftfield electronics, late-night headphones and records that get better the deeper you go.

Andy Bell is a founding member, guitarist and songwriter of shoegaze pioneers RIDE, whose landmark records Nowhere and Going Blank Again helped define the sound of early-’90s British guitar music. He later spent a decade playing bass with Oasis, followed by Beady Eye, before returning to RIDE and developing his own solo work. Under the name GLOK, Bell explores the more electronic side of his musical world, drawing on krautrock, acid house, ambient and psychedelia.

Sacred Ambient Works: Sally Daley

New on the Seeds site: the first, but hopefully not the last, of an occasional series of guest posts, from our good friend Joe Clay, co-founder of Bytes.

Joe goes digging into the music of Sally Daley, the musical director at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Chicago, who released around 15 cassettes on her own Tau-Spirit Music Productions label in the late 80s and early 90s. Her 1990 tape My God and My All is warm organ drones, tape hiss and aquatic synths, with the title piece subtitled ‘A Seaside Meditation’. Midair Museum reissued it digitally in May taken in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church by @bytes_label

Bytes is proud to announce Worlds Collide, the debut collaborative album from the ambient/experimental electronic producers Yogo Kiminami (maharishi yogo) and Noah Davis (Doc No). ‘Chrysalis’ is the first single to be taken from the album (released on November 6), a mesmerising soundscape that showcases the album in all its glory, blending the organic, nature-inspired atmosphere of Kiminami’s native Japan, with the modular, industrial grit of Davis’s New York. The album is available digitally in all the usual places and as a limited edition Bandcamp-only cassette. The title of the project was taken from the album artwork, a 2022 painting in watercolour and ink by the Ecuadorean-Scottish artist and explorer Eileen Hall. Her work has previously been used by Jon Hopkins on his 2021 album Music for Psychedelic Therapy. taken in Kyoto, Japan by @bytes_label

Since starting Bytes in 2019 we’ve fielded a lot of emails/DMs along the lines of, “Is this ever going to be released on vinyl?” The bulk of these requests have concerned remixes of artists on Bytes by Andy Bell (RIDE/Oasis) @andybebop under his electronic alter-ego GLOK. And on realising that he has done four for us now (@franz_kirmann, @stevequeralt & @by_michael_smith, @herrmann_kristoffersen and @seagoth.mp3 - all freakin’ AMAZING!), it seemed silly not to compile them all together on a four-track 12” EP.

The super limited edition 12” comes in the OG Bytes house bag with a vinyl sticker containing all the release info signed by Andy. My daughter Poppy did the label art. ❤️

We are huge fans of the writer @by_michael_smith here at Bytes HQ. His new novel, Strangers on the Shore, is another masterpiece, detailing life on the margins in his unique voice. Highly recommended. As a soundtrack, why not pick up one of the last few copies of Michael’s collaboration with @stevequeralt that we released in 2022. It’s a companion piece of sorts. An honour to have both Michael and Steve on the label. ❤️🙌❤️🙌 Respect to @whiterabbitbks for giving Michael’s beautiful, psychedelic musings a home. by @bytes_label
