Qwest TV On Stage: Célia Wa Live from La Petite HalleWe're thrilled to announce Célia Wa, the Guadeloupean composer, flutist, and singer who is revitalizing gwo ka music for a new generation, as part of our Qwest TV On Stage series.As a testament to the evils of slavery, gwo ka music and its accompanying dance have, over the past few decades, found valuable champions in figures such as Luc-Hubert Séjor and Erick Cosaque, as well as in Kassav's early recordings. Originating in Guadeloupe, this Afro-descendant culture is symbolized by the ka drums, whose daily playing accompanies life's joys and sorrows. Carefully codified, these instruments and the perspectives or tributes they evoke are now experiencing a revival through the ExpéKa collective, thanks to drummer Sonny Troupé's arrangements, Casey's unyielding flow, and Célia Wa's melodies.Performing on stage at the Petite Halle in Paris to celebrate the eighth anniversary of Qwest TV, this composer, flutist, and singer kicks off the set with the unstoppable "Ola," a powerful track arranged by the indispensable David Walters. A touch more sensual, "Démounaj" echoes the soulful depth of Erykah Badu. And a track like "Huey" perfectly blends organic sensibilities with local rhythms. Influenced by the cultures of the African continent (her debut album Fasadé features Nigerian artist Owomide and celebrates on "Sango" the Yoruba culture), this short set reaches its climax with "No Lies," an enchanting track originally recorded with kora player Ousmane Kouyaté: a work of art…Qwest TV On Stage - Célia Wa premieres April 9th, 2026 exclusively on Qwest TV. by @c.lia.wa

With roots reaching back to the dark period of slavery, gwo ka music and its accompanying dance have, over the past few decades, been championed by figures such as Luc-Hubert Séjor and Erick Cosaque, as well as in the early recordings of Kassav’.
