Haven’t posted in a long, long time. Truth is, with the goal of creating our own herbal oasis here on this land, life has had me deep in the dirt lately — literally.

The last few weeks have been spent battling Himalayan blackberries, tearing through vines, thorns, and root systems that run deeper than most people realize. Some of these tap roots were over 4 feet long and thick as a my wrist. Nature always has a way of showing you what persistence really looks like.

There’s something incredibly medicinal about this kind of work though. Being an aspiring herbalist, I can’t help but see the symbolism. Invasive growth chokes out the land and ecosystems the same way unresolved stress, habits, and stagnant energy can choke out the body, mind and spirit. Sometimes healing isn’t about adding more remedies. Sometimes it’s about removing what no longer belongs so something healthier has room to grow.

Arms cut up. Thorns stuck in our fingers. Backs sore. Mountains of blackberry piles everywhere, watching the land slowly return to a balance makes every hour worth it. taken in Everett, Washington by @c0diak
