Give forth the hand breaking the sky from the Kingdom! An angel appears, no two! The picked flesh from the last Martyr from which the crow grows fat seems to never live yet never die. The agony breath persists in the wake of no one, what fresh hell awaits? Just push me down further in to earth so Virgil can guide me, I cannot take Earth any longer! One angel responds to the plea, the other looks on with pleasure. Hell does better deeds than Heaven perhaps, the hope is so.

Did an excursion out to Placerville with my dad, 3 days two nights. Ended up being perfect to split the two hard days up, this being my second bikepacking trip and my dad’s first one in a few years it was good to have time to rest. Placerville was a nice town, we talked to the gal who works at the convenience store and regulars who stopped for a long time before we found a place to camp for the night. I’m pretty amazed how close all of this is in relative terms to Boise. This will be the first of many adventures to be had🎱 by @cackleboi

Packed up the majority of my studio space at Commonwell today. My time here has been deeply fulfilling, to have had the opportunity to work on art full time for several months is such a blessing. I’m deeply grateful to all my cohort, I’ve made connections with y’all that will carry onward for years to come. Thank you to Kathrine and Amber @commonwellboise and @alexarosefoundation for such a thoughtful program, I am a better artist because of this experience. The body of work is evidence of this, I feel real proud of it. Looking forward to continue a regular studio practice at home and I have some things planned for the spring 🎱 Photo Cred. @christinenygard.music for the first portrait & @janellnstrouse for the photos of my work, thank you❤️ by @cackleboi

“Crucified Against The Cross” -oil on canvas
These are the last two paintings I’ll complete at this studio, the residency is wrapping up soon, lots of feelings to process. More on that later, but working on these felt really great, a perfect way to close out this residency❤️ @commonwellboise @alexarosefoundation by @cackleboi

Sean Ahern’s paintings wrap around found objects to create strange, abject bodily forms. Kept literally “under wraps” during the last First Friday Art & Studio Stroll, the works have been waiting for their reveal in the SHOW & TELL Group Exhibition.

Ahern’s recent paintings and drawings draw on religious iconography and distorted figuration to explore violence, grief, and the body. A self-taught artist born and raised in Boise, Idaho, his practice has been shaped by an ongoing study of art history, including time spent living in Seattle and Europe.

Ahern has exhibited in Boise at The Common Well, Clay Collective, AI Gallery, and Treefort Music Festival.

Join us at The Common Well for an artist talk with Sean and fellow resident artists Brecken Bird and Hunter Simmons on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

A preview, a lovely moment in time. The group show is up and I spent a lot of time looking at it yesterday, perhaps due to the intense nature of setting up my emotions are a bit suspended in limbo. I’m sure by tomorrow everything will feel more real, the show itself I could not feel more honored to be in! Truly inspired by everyone in this residency, come by and see the work starting tomorrow through Sept. 25th ❤️ @commonwellboise @alexarosefoundation
