At 7.5 pounds and only 38”, my Scout isn’t a Precision Target Rifle. Neither does it have the tame recoil or rapid fire ability of an AR15 inside close distances.

What it does well is bridge the gap by offering both the velocity and energy to kill anything on the planet in a slimmer profile and weight than the M4 or AK47. All while maintaining the accuracy and reliability of a modern bolt action without losing the speed and maneuverability of a carbine.

Go on and argue in the comments. I know you’re going to lol. #scoutrifle @woox.outdoor #backpackhunting #marksmanship by @cadecole888

Skill > Equipment

That’s it. No long drawn out explanation. No sales pitch. You can have both but you can only buy one. by @cadecole888

A little unsolicited praise to @contessascopemountsusa for making a truly repeatable return to zero QD mount and to @arkenopticsusa for punching WAY above their price point in quality with every optic I’ve had my hands on so far. I’m by no means a gear snob, the price tag is essentially irrelevant to me as long as a product does its job reliably. Both of these are winners in my opinion. by @cadecole888

Radios are cool. Text is efficient. Satellite messengers are really good safety nets, however they aren’t exactly fast. This thing checks a lot of boxes for communication in the backcountry. by @cadecole888

White light is still such a valuable tool. Even in the world of Night Vision and Digital Thermal, it maintains itself as a stable tool and I would hardly consider a defensive rifle capable without it. by @cadecole888

Repetition is the key to mastery. It’s as meaningful for safety protocols as anything else. Something we really push hard during the training courses is building baselines that evolve into subconscious competence. by @cadecole888

Every wind call is an estimation. Some more educated than others, but ultimately a guess. In modern times we can pretty well all agree that MPBR is a flawed system, yet a great many shooters rely on its principles for wind drift while advocating against it for elevation adjustment. The closer you get, the less relevant environmental variables become. by @cadecole888

The idea of the pack out being the limiting factor is kind of hilarious. Yet you will hear guys use that excuse over and over again.

When @cadecole888 brought this up, I laughed out loud, because I do think there’s a lot of truth to it. Particularly when we think about opportunities out there hunting, in areas where opportunities don’t come along every day.

It’s obviously situational. But in general, on public land with easy to draw tags, when you see a legal bull, it almost always makes sense to go after it. Then deal with the pack out after the fact.

Use your logic. Make sure you can get it out without the meat going bad, and be ethical about it.

But in general, it is an excuse public land hunters use quite a bit to not make the optimal decision.

@ericwilsoncoaching, Cade, and I had a long discussion on this, along with a lot of other interesting topics in the world of getting better at elk hunting.

I truly believe scenario-based training is hugely helpful to guys, in elk hunting and beyond.

Cade’s and my courses continue to develop more and more that way, and it’s great to get the insight of a guy like Eric.

I sat down with Cade and Eric to discuss training and getting better when it comes to elk hunting. Eric has done my in-person seminar, but he’s also an experienced football coach. It was really cool to hear his perspective on the things that are the same about getting better at anything.

Eric has a lot of really cool insights. Really enjoyed this conversation with these guys.

In the age of injection molded polymer and soulless tools I really find even more appreciation in hand crafted art.

For centuries a rifle was more than a lifeline, it was a companion, and a sort of Journey stick. Collecting memories alongside it’s owner, condensing great adventures into the character of marks and blemishes.

A stock started life as a blank piece of wood, hand carved with its own story and development. Fitted to its action and then thrust into the world for its intended adventure.

The majesty of Bill Cody’s “Lucretia” is a weathered, broken, and well used stock. You’ll never get that with a piece of plastic. by @cadecole888

Martial Arts function as a physical language where individual actions can act as words and active fighting mimics conversation.

The context doesn’t really matter, for sport, for wellness, for defense. The language is the same, the structure is the same. The skills are relevant for all.

No one would ever consider themselves a Jiu Jitsu expert with only one submission, or a boxer with one punch, and yet with a rifle, proficiency is mostly measured with essentially what I would consider a jab.

It is an artform, and anyone arguing otherwise or interjecting anecdotal experience into the equation is no different than the “I see red in a street fight” guy. by @cadecole888

For being highly personalized tools a surprising amount of eyebrows get raised when you start changing standard layouts and profiles to accommodate real world use. Plastic cookie cutter rifles are fine for just about any task. They also lack soul. by @cadecole888
