It is the music video for “Anna e Marco” by Lucio Dalla, a cult, generational song from 1979. We imagined a metaphysical, plastic world where the alienation of two kids from the suburbs unfolds inside a setting that cannot move: a non-place, outside of time. Me and Noah (CD of the brand) had been eager to collaborate for a while and hungry to create something very different for the brand. My DOP Fabio Mota suggested right away to use his gorgeous Joseph Petzval lenses, that beautiful distortion wraps the world in something raw and ungovernable. We only used one single light source for specific shots, the rest was fully natural light, using the location to its full potential.The film really lives somewhere between fashion film and experimental ritual. Between the real and the surreal, Sun navigates his own world, also longing to be seen. „The Night I Learned To Fly is a fantasy coming-of-age film about growing up, embracing the unknown, and two people finding themselves, and each other. Created as our final-year film at Lusófona University, the project was a true collaboration. As Director of Photography, Cadrage helped me previsualize compositions, test lenses and camera positions, and develop the film alongside the director. I had some leftover Kodak 250D and I knew my friends @twinpaack had never shot on film so I challenged them to come up with a story with only 2min50s (100ft/30m) on the roll.
