It has been an incredibly busy month for me, however, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I was honored to have been selected to participate in @ktvu2 ‘s special 1 hour segment “State of The Town” to discuss the current landscape of our city, highlight the magnificent work that is already being done through orgs and initiatives such as @the_unity_council @yaoakland @blackculturalzone @eoydc and many many more, plus share out collective vision and hope for @oakland moving forward.

When @cristinarendontv reached out about the idea, I said “yes, BUT… there has to be youth voice at the table”. I immediately reached out to @tntoakland to help find the perfect person, Kendal Ervine of @ousdnews a Senior at @fremonthighoakland with a 4.5 GPA who was recently accepted to various colleges and universities. She passionately represented the youth perspective and literally stole the show with her thoughtful delivery and optimistic hope.

I’m exhausted, but invigorating conversations like these make my early mornings and extremely long nights worth it!

Thank you to the panelists @kinfolxoak and @actsfullgospel for their amazing contributions as well!

Its going to take EVERYONE who is tired of this “doom loop” Oakland is in to help us turn it around and get us to a place where Oakland is seen as the world class city we are! Oakland first, Oakland forward, Oakland forever!

On Saturday, October 24, @the_unity_council and @townnights will be hosting an Oakland Youth Day as part of their Bienvenida de la Catrina activation.

Kind chic to put together a ceremony that lifted Mexican roots while honoring Oakland culture - REAL TOWN BIZZZ 🩷✨💁🏻‍♀️

We made history, Oakland. Thank you for all of your support, all of your pride, all of your strength. Through our deep love and respect for diverse cultures, tradition, our shared humanity that connects us all, we are setting the standard for how things get done across the world when community leads!

OAKLAND IS PROUD!

And me, on a personal level… I can’t even deal. This little girl from East Oakland making major plays 💪 I am so grateful for life, for my intuition, for the amazing mentors and team members that surround me, for my humble Mexican beautiful familia (who inspired me throughout this journey to do this for all Latinos & Oakland and to never forget my family lineage). Gracias mama, papa, my siblings: Eli, Gustavo, y mis sobrinas Ali, Ava, Valeria. Dios mio, where to start?!

This week has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and career. We finally brought our Catrina from Mexico to Oakland!!!! A labor of love that was almost a year in the making. A lot of knots in my back, newly grown grey hairs, new wrinkles on my face, tears, joy, pride, resilience…but it was allllllll worth it.

We’ve brought something so special to Oakland, the city that I love. The city that embraced my immigrant family when we came to Oakland in the early 90’s.

@the_unity_council brought the TALLEST CATRINA IN THE UNITED STATES! Man, what a statement of pride. What a moment. What a legacy!

So many people to thank: Empesando con mi jefe, EL JEFE DE JEFES - Chris Iglesias, the true visionary behind this project. Evelyn Orantes our Arts and Culture consultant, my team - the Fund Development and Communications queens of The Unity Council, our Senior Executive Staff, Maria Sanchez & Jordan Garcia, @a2zmediagroup , the artist @artsumex, our amazingly talented content creator community, @visitoakland, our 25 member delegation, the construction crew who stayed overtime to make sure she was installed in ONE day (a record breaking installation time), OUR FUNDERS WHO BELIEVED IN THE POWER OF THIS VISION, and our people of Oakland and the Bay Area who have embraced this beautiful monument with open arms.

From Mexico to The Town, crossing borders both physically and metaphorically. Carrying stories, memory, and hope with her.

A reminder of home.
A symbol of resilience.
A reflection of the community that continues to carry its roots wherever it goes.

When I started my career, I knew it wasn’t just an opportunity to build a life for myself. It was an opportunity to finally give back to my mom everything she had given me.

As a single mother, she worked multiple jobs just to sacarnos adelante—to give us a better life and make sure we had what we needed. Watching her work so hard shaped the way I saw success.

So when I started working, I knew what it meant. This wasn’t just a paycheck to me. It was a chance to change our situation. To bring another income into our household. To create the kind of financial freedom we never grew up with. And one day, hopefully, to tell my mom she doesn’t have to worry anymore.

Everything I’ve worked for has been leading me to one day be able to look at her and say: “I’ve got it from here.” ❤️

And to anyone out there grinding, making sacrifices, or putting your own plans on hold to help your parents—keep going. I know how heavy it can feel, but one day you’ll look back and realize all those long days were worth it.
