Concertina / Concertina
a constellation of imaginal practice

I am delighted to be in conversation with a Drogheda poet I greatly admire, Susan Connolly, alongside the wonderful Eilish Martin, Chérie Driver and Julian Manev.

We will each be discussing ideas on the concertina book objects and verbal-visual practices in the Belfast School of Art by way of celebrating Susan's new publication from Macha Press (soon to be in stock at Cailleach Books!)

Free to attend, all very welcome! To register, please see link in bio.

This event is supported by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, and the Shared Island Civic Society Fund, managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Government of Ireland.

Thanks to everyone who took part in Community Ties!

We had such a fun evening last week in Barlow House as part of Night Moves Culture Night Late 2026.

The latest iteration of Cailleach Books was made in collaboration with Adroit Press, who hosted a very special knotmaking workshop, alongside our bookshop, using practical knowledge of temporary community spaces and shared ideas of the commons. It was so lovely to connect with lots of different people on the night and learn how to make knots together!

Huge thanks to Alan Leech for designing and building the modular furniture and display units. And thanks to Missey for invigilating, bringing everyone cups of tea and making gorgeous little drawings throughout the night.

Cailleach Books made a little zine!

'Patrick Kavanagh Getting Married' is a playful visual study of an archival photograph, capturing Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh's wedding party. The party took place at the home of Eoin and Joan Ryan in 1967.

Expressed as a series of reproduced photo close-ups, Patrick Kavanagh is interpreted as a newlywed caught between a moment of fun, panic and dishevelment.

This A7 fold-out zine has a limited print run of 30 copies, available exclusively at the Patrick Kavanagh Weekend Book Fair, taking place on Sunday 27th September 12-4pm at The Round Tower Church, Iniskeen.

The Patrick Kavanagh Weekend is hosted by The Patrick Kavanagh Centre in association with SoFFt Productions, the Patrick Kavanagh Society, and curatorial team Unreal Cities.

In a dark cell
Makes fuel of firmaments
And dims out Hell.'

Community Ties: a DIY bookshop and knot-making event!

Friday, 18th September
7.30pm - late (free & drop-in)
Barlow House, Droichead Arts Centre

In a time where housing is scarce and affordable community spaces are difficult to find, the ability to make our own commons becomes even more important.

As part of Night Moves Culture Night Late 2026, Adroit Press in collaboration with Cailleach Books presents an evening that celebrates the commons at Barlow House!

A special iteration of Cailleach Books will be open for local residents, activists and artists to drop-in, have a cup of tea, chat and browse a selection of DIY publications in a self-assembled bookshop. In this space, Adroit Press will be hosting a participatory workshop that teaches you how to tie basic knots and lashings used in building shelter and setting up impromptu events.

Drop in from 7.30pm until late to explore Cailleach Books and take part in our knot making session with Adroit Press. Tea and snacks will be provided throughout the evening.

KAVANAGH WEEKEND 2026

Cailleach Books is delighted to be travelling up the road to Inniskeen for this year's Kavanagh Weekend!

The Patrick Kavangh Centre in association with the Patrick Kavanagh Society, SoFFt Productions and Unreal Cities (Adrian Dunbar and Nick Roth) present a programme exploring Patrick Kavanagh's links to the Beat Generation of the 20th Century. This curation will play host to an exciting mix of voices directly associated with the movement - including the poet Anne Waldman!!

Cailleach Books will be hosting a stall at the Round Tower Church on Sunday, 27th September as part of the Kavanagh Book Fair alongside absolute legends Hi Tone Books, Poetry Ireland and Roe River Books.

On the occasion, we will be curating a selection of poetry publications and zines that we think Kavanagh himself would enjoy. And we might have a little surprise thrown in there too, so stay tuned!

For more information about Kavanagh Weekend 2026 visit patrickkavanaghcentre.com

Thank you for re:verb!

Cailleach Books was delighted to be part of re:verb alongside some incredible artists and poets whose work sits outside of convention, expectation, and our more formal publishing systems.

Assembling a bookshop on this occasion was not only a way to make a community space around these poetic works but also a way to test the limits of and explore something which I have been thinking a lot about these days - a means of 'creative book distribution'.

Thank you @c_makris for making re:verb happen, for always giving room for those who experiment and for giving Cailleach Books this opportunity.

It was a pleasure to sit and watch every performance across this festival. Thanks to everyone on this line-up - for all the great work you do!

And lastly, thanks to the individual poets, booksellers, reps and publishers who worked with Cailleach Books directly and helped me distribute copies of this work for the weekend.

Some limited titles are still available if you missed out. Browse the re:verb collection online on cailleachbooks.ie

Just under two weeks until Rupture's Radical Book Fair!

Books, zines, clothing swap, exhibitions, poetry, art, campaign groups and workshops all under one tent!

Cailleach Books is pleased to be taking part in the annual Radical Book Fair hosted by @rupture_media on Saturday, 30 May at the Teachers' Club.

Come say hello to us in main hall, where we will be among the book stalls, alongside fellow left-wing publishers, magazines and media projects, as well as stalls from different union and campaign groups. On the day, Cailleach Books will have a selection of anti-capitalist zines, publications and poetry pamphlets for you to rummage through.

This event is free to attend and there will be a small raffle on the day to help the organisers cover costs - so come on down and show some support! taken in Teachers Club by @cailleachbooks

》re:verb《

Cailleach Books is partnering with re:verb by @c_makris, a dreamy new festival of poetry and verbal art that strays predominantly from the mainstream, and aims to expand the potential of live literature.

Its purpose is to offer an outlet and an encouragement for new forms and approaches to the making and presentation of contemporary poetry and literature that privilege liveness and vibrancy. And as a small poetry/verbal arts festival, re:verb aims to operate on a model that relies on a communal, artist- and audience-centred stake in its workings.

》explore the re:verb collection《

To further explore this work, you can browse a new dedicated section on cailleachbooks.ie where publishing affiliated with and adjacent to the poets and artists of the festival has become available to buy online.

The re:verb collection features publishers such as gorse, Divided Publishing, Wurm Press, Monitor Books, No Alibi Press, Veer2, Macha Press, Shearsman Books, The Lilliput Press, Verso, plus more leading up to the festival weekend - where you can say hello and browse some of these exciting publications at our next in-person iteration!

》Show your support《

re:verb is, in its current form at least, a zero-budget and DIY operation. Which means that all artists fees - will depend entirely on ticket sales. Please support this work by purchasing a festival pass or ticket via the link in bio.

Come hang out with us at @kirkos_ensemble , 5-6 June x by @cailleachbooks
