Last weekend, CAIR-NJ hosted our 20th annual banquet at @icpcnj. We were honored to receive a Congressional proclamation from Representative Analilia Mejia (@repanalilia) for our 20+ years of service to New Jersey’s Muslim community. We also held a moving conversation with the Congresswoman and local hero, Leqaa Kordia (@freeleqaakordia). We touched on our interconnected struggles: immigration enforcement, political repression, and advocacy for justice and the human rights of Palestinians.

We were joined by Mayor Andre Sayegh (@andresayeghnj) Assemblymember Al Abdelaziz (@asmalabdelaziz), Councilmembers Paula Alford (@misspaulaflava) and Ibrahim Omar.

CAIR (@cair_national) founder and Executive Director, Nihad Awad (@nihadawadofficial) joined us to share his wisdom from decades of leading civil rights work on behalf of American Muslims.

We also recognized many leaders from the community including Sister Reshma Khan, Brother Raed Odeh, and MUNA Youth. Our MC and newest board member, Younes Hadouche, led us with humor and grace.

Couldn’t make it? Save the date for our Central Jersey banquet: November 14th at MCMC in Piscataway. We thank everyone for their generosity in funding our critical work. Please continue to support our work at CAIR-nj.org/northbanquet

20 years of advocacy. 20 years of building power. 20 years of standing with New Jersey’s Muslim community.

Join us on Saturday, November 14, as we bring our Central Jersey community together for an evening dedicated to the work ahead. We are honored to welcome Aber Kawas as our keynote speaker for this year’s banquet at the Muslim Center of Middlesex County (MCMC) in Piscataway, NJ.

Aber Kawas is Brooklyn, New York, and is of Palestinian descent. She graduated in 2014 from the City College of New York’s International Studies Program with a concentration in Latin American Studies. Aber has been organizing with the Arab and Muslim community since 2010 with organizations like CAIR NY and the Urban Justice Center. Her work focuses on issues including immigration, surveillance, racial profiling, and more. Aber serves as the Advocacy Specialist for Take on Hate NY.

This is more than a gathering. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with our community, reflect on how far we’ve come, and invest in the fight for a more just future.

Early bird tickets are available NOW through October 31!

What is so offensive about affirming Palestinians’ right to live? Why is a congressman censoring public school teachers when they should be protecting our constitutional rights? Email Rep Gottheimer and Superintendent Lerner’s offices demanding the poster be put back up and the teachers rights be protected: cair-nj.org/gazamustlive by @cair.nj

Every fourth Saturday, Muslim volunteers in Paterson and Prospect Park show up with groceries, helping hands, and a commitment to their neighbors.

Organized by the Muslim Ummah of North America @munayouth, the food distribution has grown from a small volunteer effort into a program serving more than 400 families every month, regardless of faith, race, or background.

For the volunteers, the work is rooted in faith. But its impact reaches beyond the food itself, creating connections between people who might not otherwise meet.

TJM contributor Adil Abdullah, who has helped organize and volunteer with the program, shares the people and purpose behind the work.

A federal judge has dismissed the Trump administration’s civil lawsuit over a pro-Palestinian protest in West Orange.

The key distinction: offensive or unwelcome political advocacy is not, by itself, a violation of the law DOJ used. Force, threats and obstruction are a separate question.

The case is not necessarily over. DOJ has 30 days to amend its complaint.

Swipe for what happened, what the judge said, and what comes next.

A simple sign: Gaza Must Live.

Taken down by @bergentechschools upon request by @repjoshg congressional office, based on emails reviewed by CAIR-NJ. Why was a pro-humanity sign targeted by member of congress for removal? Why are public schools engaging in censorship and placing pre-clearance requirements for one subject alone? We wrote to Bergen County Technical Schools Superintendent asking for the sign to be reinstated and a better process for engaging teachers before wantonly removing signs from their classrooms. by @cair.nj
