Parents spend decades breaking up fights between their kids. But the biggest fight is in the making if you don’t make a plan for your stuff.

As estate transition specialists, we see it all the time. The deepest, most permanent family rifts usually boil down to two things:

The kids don’t want the china…
unless you actually use it with them now.

The simple truth is that your kids have zero emotional attachment to dishes that sat in a dark hutch for forty years.

If you want the next generation to cherish Grandma’s fine china, pull it out on a random Tuesday. Eat takeout off of it. Intentionally build a memory around it.

The key is leading by example. If it’s tied to a memory of you laughing around a table, it becomes a treasure. Otherwise? It’s okay to let it find a new home.
