A psychic once described Ben to me, almost exactly, before I’d ever met him. Then he actually showed up and it felt like lightning in my body. I just knew. This song (Free Fallen by @tompettyofficial) was being sung by two friends the day we met at Steamers Lane in Santa Cruz.

Since day one he’s brought levity into my life, we used to bark when we saw hot people “woof,” and seven years later he’s still the hottest man in the room. He’s also the most honest, open relationship I’ve ever had. I can say any desire, any dream, out loud, and he loves me for it, not in spite of it.

I call him my human sunshine. That’s actually where Sunny’s name came from 🌞 she’s the perfect offshoot of him.

The year we lived apart, me in LA, him in Santa Cruz, I remember how gutting it was every time he had to leave. 🥺That ache is how I knew we had to be in the same place. COVID sped that up, and not long after, we were pregnant with the girl who carries his light in her name.

What I didn’t expect, back then, was what a father he’d become. Watching him with Sunny might be my favorite version of him yet.

Happy birthday to my person. 🌞 taken in Santa Monica, California by @caleyalyssa

I haven’t posted in a while because I had a cardiac ablation surgery on Wednesday, this was an elective procedure, I chose this (I kept telling myself this the entire time!) 😬🫀

I’ve had SVT (Super Ventricular Tachycardia) most of my life. I recently wore a heart monitor for two weeks to track it, and it picked up 28 episodes all above 190bpm I didn’t even feel. I did, however, feel the 280bpm episode. That’s what made the decision easy. I wasn’t going to wait around for the myriad of issues this can cause down the road.

Right now I’m sore, swollen, and moving pretty slow. Shout out to my man @benharrison1 , my mama @debbihoward24 , and my baby girl for all taking such good care of me! 🌞

I keep thinking about what my nervous system and heart are going to feel like on the other side of this, a whole new level of normal. I can’t wait to feel it..and at the same time, I totally can wait. Because it’s not often I get to rest like this, on purpose, with nowhere to be. ❤️‍🩹

Last Nidra Noir sold out completely, and the thing people kept messaging me after was the same: they didn’t realize how much they needed to do nothing until they were forced to.

This Tuesday, July 14th at 7:30pm, we’re doing it again at @primalmovesvenice — full guided Yoga Nidra, wrapped in the @boncharge_ red light blanket, optional kava (heart opener) from @drinkbashi if you want it, and one rule: no phones in the room. ❌🙅🏼‍♀️😵

If you’ve been telling yourself you’ll rest once things calm down, they won’t. This is the interruption, not the reward you earn later.

Two days out and there’s still room, and last time this filled up fast.

Link in bio to grab a spot, or comment ‘NOIR’ and I’ll send it to you directly.

Eight years ago I dated a yoga teacher. His voice was the most perfect I’d ever heard in a room… his cadence, pacing, presence, all of it. I thought that voice meant something about who he actually was inside.

What I got wasn’t calm. It was utter chaos: lying, cheating, gaslighting so consistent I started doubting things I knew were true. (Taking full responsibility here for signing up for this at that time!)

And, a calm voice is not a regulated nervous system.
I dated the proof.

We’ve somehow turned “the grind” into identity because sitting still feels like we’re actually falling behind.

And we don’t know how to stop, because the job lives in our pockets and there’s no clock to punch out on. There’s always one more thing.

I just spent two weeks off the grid.
And it felt SO GOOD.
I got my thoughts back.
Not the anxious looping ones.
The real ones.
The ones that actually sound like me.

➡️ Rest isn’t something you earn. ⬅️
It’s not a reward at the end of a productive week.
And it’s definitely not something we should only have while on vacation. Rest how you stay a full human being not just a minimally functioning one.

Productivity is its own kind of sickness.
And most of us are deep in it.

We drove 1,200 miles to watch Sunny’s Au Pair graduate from PSU with her masters in Spanish!

@tryciaherreraf came into our lives from Colombia as a stranger and now she’s family. She held Sunny when I couldn’t. She showed up on the hard days without being asked. She became part of the architecture of our home.

Watching her cross that stage I ugly-cried in the audience... I’m so proud of this woman!!!

Then hot springs in the middle of nowhere. Then Lake Tahoe.
Then more road. Sunny was fearless this whole trip,
jumping off rocks, soaking in hot springs at sunset, completely unbothered by any of it.

I keep thinking about what we’re actually teaching her on trips like this.

The fact that life is something you drive toward.
That family is something you build.
That showing up for people matters even when it’s inconvenient.

She’s watching all of it.
They always are.

HOME! More soon. 🌑 by @caleyalyssa

Happy Father’s Day to the papa-dada who GENUINELY delights in being a dad.

When I met you, I knew you’d be a good dad.
I just had no idea how good!!

Your presence. Your silliness. The way you make everything an adventure. The tenderness you have for her that you don’t even try to hide. Sunny got the curious, imaginative, fully-in-it version of you, and she knows it!

My dad chose not to be in my life.
He chose not to know our daughter.

On this day every year I think about him, and what he’s missing. And then I look at you, and I know Sunny will never feel that kind of pain. Because you will never leave her wondering.

She’s a lucky little girl.

We love you, baby. 🤍

Every year I get a reminder that I’m not meant to do this alone. @spiritweavers was that this year. 🌹

Sunny and I drove up to Oregon to meet some of my closest women. We made pottery with our hands. We drank herbal medicine by the river. The girls ran around naked, drawing, laughing, completely unbothered. SAFE. An absolute and utter privilege in our world today.

Nobody was performing anything. No one was producing. Just women being women!! We were present, rooted, connected. Kids being kids.

I’ve barely opened my phone in a week 😬 and I want you to know: my nervous system noticed. My creativity noticed. Most importantly, Sunny noticed.

This is the thing I teach! This trip just reminded me why it matters.

Where do you go to remember who you are? ↓

I spent a decade teaching people how to move.

And for most of that time I genuinely believed movement could fix anything. Yoga was my gym, my therapist, & my church.

Until I eventually hit something movement couldn’t reach…

A kind of extreme exhaustion that lived deep below the surface in my bones. The kind that doesn’t just show up in your muscles, it shows up in your eyes. In the way you wake up already tired. In the way you push through everything and still feel like you’re failing.

That’s a nervous system running on fumes. And no amount of training, stretching, or sweating moves that needle.

Yoga Nidra does.

This Tuesday, June 9th, I’m hosting the first Nidra Noir at @primalmovesvenice. A guided Yoga Nidra experience on the new moon, with @boncharge red light and @drinkbashi kava.

40 spots. Some still available. Link in bio.

And if Tuesday doesn’t work, this is happening every single new moon. You have a standing invitation. 🤍 taken in Primal Moves Venice by @caleyalyssa

The last time I hosted a Nidra evening, 20 mats sold out before I finished talking about it. 🌙

So this time I’m being more intentional about who’s in the room.

June 9th. @primalmovesvenice. 40 spots.

Here’s what makes this different from any yoga class you’ve been to:
We start with @drinkbashi cava.
Not as a party trick, but because cava is a heart opener. And Yoga Nidra works from the heart. Your Sankalpa (the deepest intention your practice is built around) lives there. 🤍 You can’t access it from your head. You can’t think your way into it.

The cava softens you.
The @boncharge red light grounds you.
And then we go deep.

I’ve been away from teaching Nidra publicly for two years. This is my re-entry. I’m not easing back in.

40 people. $50. Link in bio.
Who’s been waiting for something like this? 👇

My mom flew in from Portland so Ben and I could do this!
She took Sunny on her school campout up in Malibu while we headed to @libfestival. We packed two cars. It was chaos. And it was worth every second 😝

This was my third time teaching at LIB, and the first time bringing @primalmovesvenice into the family zone. Three kids classes. Hundreds of little humans moving every joint in their bodies, playing, laughing, connecting. There was an 8-year-old DJ 🤯 @benharrison1 was on the slack line helping kids cross. At one point @jandymane wrestled with a very sexy MMA fighter. It was pure, unhinged joy.

Our main adult class had 100+ people moving together in the middle of a festival. I wasn’t even the main teacher this time — @oliviajayebrown held it down — and I got to just be the hype girl. Turns out that’s one of my favorite roles!!!

I also snuck into my friend Donovan’s @amplifiedyoga class and got completely wrecked in the best way. He reminded me: I am the gatekeeper of what I let into my body and my mind. That one’s going to stay with me. 💞

Oh, and every morning around 5am, the camp next to us would just be getting started. Full DJ set. Dancing. Absolutely zero chill. By day two I stopped fighting it and just surrendered to the chaos. (Next time: RV. Non-negotiable. 😂)

This is what Primal Moves is. Not just movement. Connection. Joy. Every joint. Every age. Every version of yourself that shows up.

Thank you LIB. Thank you to my amazing team. Thank you Ben. And thank you @debbihoward24 — you’re the reason any of this is possible. 🖤
