I spent nine years earning the opportunity to interview @dhmeyer and I wasn't showing up empty handed.

In 2017, I wrote Danny's name at the top of a whiteboard in our tiny @calibbqmedia office.
We had a couple of microphones, a little camera, and a dream. Fast forward to 2026. More than 1,500 interviews later, we're heading to San Francisco for the conversation I've been working toward for nine years. But I wanted to bring Danny something meaningful.

In his new book, What Could Possibly Go Right?, Danny writes about “finishing the hat” - creating something that didn't exist before. That idea stuck with me. So I marked the page, texted my friend Nick, and we made Danny a custom hat inspired by his book. Five letters, One question. What could possibly go right?

When I handed it to Danny, his response was everything: “God bless you. I will cherish that.”

Nine years of preparation, thousands of conversations, one unforgettable moment. The interview was the dream, the work was how we got there. And the gift was my way of saying thank you. Don't stop, that's the secret

Every episode along the way was another chance to listen better, ask better questions, and become a better storyteller.

During our conversation, Danny talked about the ups and downs people don’t always see. There’s no straight line between point A and point B.

Just because you want something, doesn’t mean it’s time.

You have to plant the seeds and water them every day, in yourself, your craft, and your product.

Keep doing the work so that when the opportunity comes, you’re prepared to make the most of it.
