Honored, thrilled, amazed, and humbled to announce that I’m officially a 2025-2028 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow!!! Receiving this call was an experience unlike anything I’ve encountered thus far. Some days I still can’t quite believe it. Today I can. Thank you to the panelists, Jerome Foundation board and staff, and anyone involved with putting a yes next to my name. I am eternally grateful. Excited for the next three years!

And now, on to the next! The journey with this play has been long and twisty (like most plays), but it has been the clearest case of the universe telling me to take my time because I needed to see something. I needed to see the world shift in order to write this play. I needed to see what we’re fighting for and against in 2026 to make sense of it. Next year, y’all will get to see it why. Get ready to meet the Grioraphet (gree-ore-uh-fet).

THE GRIORAPHET SPEAKS ON SUNDAYS made its critical first step into the land of production this week. I had a lot of worries and few expectations, but what I feel sitting on the other side of it is simply profound gratitude (and happy tears).

The Grioraphet’s world continues to grow and deepen and show me just how critical it is for us to be there for each other. I cannot say enough good about the three days I spent with these incredible Black folks. I don’t take the work I do lightly or for granted, but it’s rare I get such a strong reflection that the work is a light, an open door.

Biannual friends trip was a literal chef’s kiss. Ate splendidly, escaped in the nick of time, strolled by Louis and Lestat’s house, grooved to all the music the rues had to offer, led a writing workshop in a park, and returned to a proper brick wall for our traditional photo. I love my people 🥹

If Tuesday night was a testament to anything, it was to how much of a gift it is to be literally surrounded by those that affirm you. Living and ancestral. Theater makers and family & friends. Phenomenal actors and a one-of-one creative/production team.

Thank you to Aaron and the Fault Line team for uplifting me and my work so ardently over the past few years, culminating in a night I’ll never forget. Thank you to the incomparable Dominique Rider—the only director I could have gone on this journey with and who lifted this play to its highest heights. Thank you to actors who trusted, questioned, and pushed this play (and me) forward in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Talented doesn’t even begin to cover it. Thank you to my family for showing up and showing out in force as always. Thank you to every single person that made the Ivy, 1859 experience something electric, ephemeral, and alive. You made a packed house feel all the more infinite.

there used to be more time between the thing publicly shared and the response to it.

a letter. a wait. a chance in the passing of time to change your mind before anyone responded. now there are 40 people in your DMs before the thought even finishes forming.

I am honored to be in rehearsal this week working to bring this play to life. I started this journey in 2018. It wasn’t part of a trilogy then and I didn’t fully understand what I was getting into then, but I’m so glad I’ve landed with this version of the play at the exact time I have. It has landed me in the room with incredible actors, the incomparable Dominique, and the Fault Line team I’ve gotten to know and greatly appreciate over the past few years.
