QSTC is pleased to announce our Michael Bradford Residency participants. Our finalists will spend four days lakeside while developing their new works.
This year’s playwrights include:
Calley N. Anderson — Hot Seat: Can you really redress harm? A group of unnamed ex-associates gather for a restorative-adjacent circle with their former tormentor to find out.
LaRaisha Dionne — An American Coup Braids three timelines into one theatrical event: 1898 Wilmington, North Carolina, where a white supremacist mob destroys the nation’s only Negro daily newspaper and overthrows the elected government in America’s only successful coup d’état.
Rebecca S’manga-Frank — Valence is about sex, death, and intimacy through the lens of intersecting identity, power, dependency, liberation, love, and “the unknown.”
Reynaldo Piniella — solo show, Black and Blue Black is about a Black boy living in a society that doesn’t like it when our Black men show vulnerability, and this sensitive boy learns to bottle up his feelings and internalize his trauma.
Stephen Tyrone Williams — COMPROMISE(D) is a 2-person legal drama, set in St. Louis in 1835. It is inspired by the true story of John Berry Meachum, a free black man and target of a misdirected lawsuit who must decide whether to compromise his core beliefs to win the case when his best line of defense becomes the argument of slavery.

Acting, my first creative love. ✨

Thank you for ushering me into the world of what my creative nature can be,

The ever expanding creative network that equally expands me,

And all the moments you teach me more about myself and living.

I am always grateful for the right opportunities to return to you.

And by “right,” I mean the projects that change me, deepen my connection to my purpose and challenge me to continue clarifying my “why” fueling me to create and constantly evolve.

You remind me of the power of my passions, voice, thoughts, mind and body -

How intrinsically connected I am to them.

How impactful and resonant they can be.

—

THANK YOU to this cast of creatives for a process generous in spirit, thoughtful in questioning, rich in knowledge and trusting in authentic perspective-to-perspective connection.

@calley_ands what you wrote is art and collaboration with grounded artists like you is one of my greatest joys. Xx 😘
