POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
So, apparently, I’ve spent the last 45-ish
years following a very persistent little thread.

What makes me feel more alive?

Not more successful.
Not more impressive.
Not more ā€œtogether.ā€

More ALIVE.

And honestly, it has led me all over the bloody place.

It started on a stage.
I was the kid who wanted to act, sing,
dance, tell stories and make people feel something.

I became fascinated by what happens when
humans gather together and one person gets
brave enough to reveal something real.

The room changes.
People open.

They laugh.
They soften.
They remember themselves.

And I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

Through drama school and a spectacular
bout of ā€œI am absolutely not enough.ā€

Through a nervous breakthrough in my twenties.

Through leaving Australia, travelling for
two months and accidentally staying
away for eight years.

Through yoga, falling in love, moving countries,
getting married, having babies and eventually
building a house on a 400 acres community in the Northern Rivers with chooks, veggie patches,
other families and very little interest
in doing life the conventional way.

Through learning how to be married
without making my husband wrong
for being different from me.

Through learning how to parent without
wielding the tiny authoritarian dictatorship society
had programmed.

And now, delightfully, through
dancing again in my 40s.

Because the thread keeps tugging.
And the thread, for me, is aliveness.

Not happiness.
Not positivity.
Not having your shit together.

Aliveness.

That feeling of being in your own life.
And this is where my work lives.

I’m a relational coach and I work with people who are navigating the wonderfully messy terrain of being human - relationships, identity shifts, parenting, boundaries, communication, self-trust, big life transitions and those moments when you quietly realise:

Ohhhh. I think I’ve lost myself in here somewhere.

We find the thread again.
The values.
The voice.
The needs.
The truth underneath all the noise.
And then we work out how to actually
LIVE from there.

Being witnessed sounds soft until
you experience what it does.

When someone really hears you,
without fixing you or rushing to the silver lining,
the stuff you’ve been carrying on your
own starts to shift.

Here’s what that looks like in real life:

You stop replaying the same conversation in
your head at 2am.

You finally say the thing you’ve been sitting
on for months, and the world doesn’t end.

You stop feeling like you have to hold it all
together for everyone.

Decisions get easier, because you’re not
trying to work it all out alone.

You realise you were never the only one
feeling this way.

You get your energy back, because holding
it all in takes a lot of it.

That’s what feeling lighter means to me.

Not a perfect life.
Just less weight on your shoulders
and more room to breathe.

That’s what we do inside THE PLACE, my online
group coaching program.

8 spaces, 3 months, starting November 14th.

You show up from wherever you are,
and you’re not on your own anymore.

Be witnessed, feel lighter and genuinely cared for.

We’ll have your back!

I know what happens when you stop doing this alone.

I’ve been holding group spaces for women
for a decade, and I keep coming back to
them because of what they give me too.

I like myself more in a room where
I’m genuinely witnessed.

I trust myself more when I’ve had somewhere
to say the thing out loud.

I can feel what’s happening around me
without automatically absorbing it.

I catch my own patterns quicker.

I ask for what I need without needing
to build a case for it.

I can say no and get on with my day.

I can be seen without performing.

And I get to witness other women doing the same.

There’s something about sitting in a room where someone says the thing you thought only you did.

That little ohhhhh.

The exhale.

The laugh.

The nodding as you listen.

The feeling of, I’m not the only one.

This is why I keep making these rooms.

Because I know what they can give you.

And because I still want them for myself.

That’s THE PLACE.

A space to practise being more fully you,
with other women doing the same.

I’m in the kitchen, one hand on the bench, the kettle rattling towards a boil, someone talking to me from the other room and my mind is already building its case.

They shouldn’t have said that.

They knew better.

I’m fucking justified.

I can feel the heat rising up my neck as the story gets better and better.

The kind of story where I’m very clearly the reasonable one.

And then, something shifts.

Just enough.

That tiny moment where I can feel myself standing outside the story for a second.

Oh. There I am. This is it.

This is the practice room.

Not some quiet little corner of the house with a candle burning and my journal open.

It’s the wet towel abandoned on the bathroom floor.

The cold matcha beside my laptop.

The car idling in the driveway while I sit there for an extra five minutes because I’m not ready to walk inside.

It’s bare feet on cold tiles at six in the morning.

Salt drying on my skin after a swim.

The lump in my throat halfway through a conversation.

The hot flush of anger.

The ache in my chest when something lands somewhere tender.

The relief that comes when I finally stop arguing with myself and tell the truth.

This is where I get to practise.

In the noise.

In the mess.

In the ordinary Tuesday-nightness of being alive.

I don’t want to become someone who never gets knocked off centre.

I want to know the feeling of myself well enough to notice when I’ve gone missing.

And to find my way home again.

That’s the work I love doing with women.

Right here.

In the middle of actual life, with the washing still waiting and dinner to make and conversations that don’t always go how we hoped they would.

That’s THE PLACE - 90 day group expression space.

The next one begins November 14th.

Come sit with us.

I’ve realised something about
myself through dancing.

The version of me I think I am,
isn’t necessarily the version
other people experience.

And honestly?
Thank fuck for that.

Because I can get pretty caught up in how
I think I look.
How I move.
Whether I’m good enough.
Whether I’m too old.
Whether I’m doing it right.

But then I get in a room with these women.

And we start making something.
And suddenly I’m not thinking about myself at all.

I’m watching her.
She’s watching me.
We’re laughing.
We’re missing counts.
We’re nailing things.
We’re making each other braver.

And somewhere in that collective experience, my own little self-conscious world gets, bigger.

I’m beginning to understand that sometimes
the way out of a limited relationship with
ourselves isn’t more self-analysis.

It’s experience.
It’s camaraderie.
It’s creativity.
It’s being witnessed.
It’s discovering that there are parts of you that only come alive in relationship with other people.

And now comes the next edge.

After ten weeks of creating together, we’re about to stand in front of an audience and let ourselves be seen.

Which feels vulnerable.
And completely right.

Because maybe, underneath all of it,
this is what we’re all longing for in
one way or another.

Not applause.
Not approval.

Just,
See me.

See me becoming.
See me trying.
See me creating something
I didn’t know I could create.

And maybe, in seeing us, you’ll recognise
a little bit of yourself too.

I woke up to a message this morning that
left me feeling….wronged.
By someone who felt wronged by me.

And, honestly, my first feeling was that
familiar heat in the body.

Defensive energy pulsing through my body with racing thoughts like- ā€œbut that’s not what I meantā€ and ā€œyou’ve got me completely wrong.ā€

How can something I did with such good
intentions have landed so badly?

And then I noticed something I’m incredibly grateful for.
I didn’t have to do anything with the feeling.
I could let it be there.

The tightness.
The injustice.
The urge to explain myself.
The discomfort of being seen through a lens
that feels so far from my own intentions.

And I could sit with it.

Because I know my intentions.
I know what I was trying to create.

Harmony.

And somehow, I’ve found myself standing in the middle of disharmony instead.

And maybe this is part of being human.

Sometimes we will be misunderstood.
Sometimes someone will hold a version of us
that feels completely unrecognisable.
And we don’t have to wrestle that
version out of their hands.

They’re allowed to have their experience of us.
Even if it’s not our truth.
Even if they hold it forever.

I can trust time.
I can trust what I know.
And I can let the uncomfortable feeling move through me without turning it into another conversation,
another explanation, another attempt to
make myself understood.

Sometimes the most powerful thing
we can do is,
nothing.

Just breathe.
And let people have their version of you.

She sent me a voice message on her way to work.

You know those voice messages.

The ones where someone starts talking and you can hear the whole month sitting behind the words.

The sickness.
The kids.
The dogs.
The appointments.
The surgeries coming up.
Work.
Being a mum.
Being a wife.

And then, somewhere between telling me what had been happening and laughing about what a flipping month it had been, she said:

ā€œI don’t even know where to begin.ā€

And there it was.

Because sometimes you’re not falling apart.

You’re actually doing okay.

There are good things happening.

You’re laughing.
You’re loving your people.
You’re getting shit done.

But underneath it all, you can feel yourself
getting further and further away from yourself.

Your head is noisy.
Your body is asking for a minute.
Your thoughts are all tangled together.
And you keep thinking, I should probably
do something about this.

But then you think…

What?
What do I even need?
Where would I start?
What would I say?

So you put it off.

Until one morning, on the way to work,
you finally go:

ā€œFuck it. I need some space.ā€

And I actually think this is such a beautiful
place to begin.

Because you don’t need to arrive knowing
what you need.

You can bring the whole messy, contradictory, wonderful, exhausting lot of it.

We can sit in it together.

Talk.
Listen.
Laugh.
Untangle.

Notice what’s yours.
Notice what isn’t.

Find the bits of you that have been buried
underneath everyone else’s needs.

And somewhere along the way,
you take a breath.
Your shoulders drop.
The noise gets quieter.
And you can hear yourself again.

Not because I gave you the answers.
Because you found your way back to you.

So if you’ve been thinking,
I need something.
But you don’t quite know what…

You don’t need to figure that out first.
You just need to take the first step.

Bring me the ā€œI don’t know where to begin.ā€

That’s enough.
We’ll begin there.

Walking and talking with my partner on the beach as the sun rose, I felt a familiar frustration rising in me.

We were talking about a couple we know.
I was speaking candidly about the energy
I experience between them, and he said,

ā€œWell, I can’t really speak to it until I know both sides.ā€

And I understand that.
Of course there are two sides.
Of course there are different perspectives,
different experiences, different truths.

But something about this particular
response got under my skin.

Because I think we have become so committed to neutrality, political correctness and not making
a judgement that we have forgotten how to
have a moral compass.

Because you don’t actually need to know
every detail of a situation to know
what your values are.

You don’t need to know both sides to know
that intimidation isn’t okay.
That manipulation isn’t okay.
That cruelty isn’t okay.
That making someone feel unsafe isn’t okay.
That using power, money, fear or control in a relationship isn’t okay.

And you don’t have to decide who is right and
who is wrong in order to hold a standard for
how human beings should treat one another.

This feels especially important when we
talk about men and women.

I think part of being a good man in this world is being conscious of the impact your presence has on women.

Not because every woman is fragile.
Not because every man is dangerous.

But because women have spent a long time
learning to assess their safety around men.
And I think men can call one another forth
into something more here.

Not:
ā€œMate, what’s her side of the story?ā€
so we can work out whether your behaviour
was justified.

But:
ā€œMate, regardless of her behaviour,
is this who you want to be?ā€

Because there is a subtle but profoundly
important difference.

We can hold two truths.
We can have compassion for someone’s experience AND hold them accountable for their behaviour.
We can’t know the whole story AND know what we stand for.
We can understand why someone behaved the way they did AND still say, ā€œThat’s not okay.ā€

Standing outside this morning waiting for the sun.

Bare feet in the grass, matcha in hand, watching that beautiful in-between moment where the sky hasn’t quite decided what it’s doing yet.

And I was looking at the hills.

The way they roll into each other.
The little dips and curves.
The way the first bit of sunlight lands
on one ridge and leaves another
tucked away in shadow.

And I thought about how beautiful we are
with our language when we’re describing nature.

Rolling hills.
Cascading waterfalls.
Soft curves.
Weathered landscapes.
Wild, magnificent beauty.

Then we get to the human body,

And suddenly we’re like,

ā€œUgh. Look at that flabby bit.ā€

ā€œWhat’s happening with that sag?ā€

ā€œWhy is that so wobbly?ā€

Honestly.

Where did all the poetry go?

Because what if I looked at my own body
with the same generous eyes I use
to look at a sunrise?

What if the soft bit was just, soft?

What if the curve was a curve?

What if the little folds and ripples and
places that move when I move were simply
the landscape of a body that has been very
busy being alive?

This ridiculous, brilliant collection of cells
lets me dance and swim and laugh and
feel the warmth of the sun on my skin.

It carries me through the world.

And still, sometimes, I stand in front of the
mirror and reduce the whole magnificent
operation to one annoying bit of belly.

I think I might be done with that.

Not because I’m suddenly going to
adore every inch of myself.

But because I want better words.

More curiosity.

More affection.

A little more wonder.

I want to look at this body and see a landscape.

Not a renovation project.

And maybe next time I catch myself picking it apart,
I’ll remember -I wouldn’t stand at sunrise
and complain about the hill.

I’d just stand there and look.

So perhaps that’s what I’m learning to do with me.

I was putting on my makeup this morning,
one cheek at a time.

My hand on my face.
Foundation under my fingers.
The little tapping and blending and smoothing.
Moving from one side to the other.

And I suddenly thought,
What if we’ve got this whole thing backwards?
We’re so accustomed to being paid for the outcome.

You do the work → you get the money.
You finish the project → you get the result.
You reach the goal → you get the reward.

So much of life becomes about
getting to the other side.

But what if some of the payment is
happening while we’re doing it?

The actual doing.
The showing up.
The tiny bit of momentum created by
taking one more step.

The conversation you finally have.
The page you finally write.
The ten minutes you spend making
something with your hands.

The walk.
The practice.
The makeup.
The meal you make from scratch.
The thing that doesn’t quite get finished
but is further along than it was yesterday.

Maybe the payoff isn’t only what
happens because we did the thing.

Maybe doing the thing is part of the payoff.
And maybe that changes the whole feeling of a life.

Because then we’re not constantly postponing
the good bit until we get somewhere.
We’re already getting something from being here.

One hand on the cheek.
One small action.
One little bit of movement.

The process is part of the payment.
