Since I stopped playing and touring in hardcore bands, I’ve always had this little thought in the back of my mind that wondered how I could involve my art practice into a setting that was connected to that, this festival is not only the perfect setting, but to do it with a headliner like @converge who’s visual identity has always been so inspiring, creative and powerful (driven by @jbannon ), I’m super excited to create an installation for guests to experience. What a lineup. So stoked for the opportunity @lucidityfest.au by @callumpreston

Ladies and gentlemen please meet our production designer and guru of all things 90’s tech, Callum Preston. Huge fan of everything this guy does and if you haven’t seen his stuff, clear and afternoon and do a deep dive. You won’t regret it.

Back in January I was contacted directly by @rams merch team about working together to create some Melbourne exclusive merch for the NFL Melbourne game at the MCG. It was so cool to hear that they had been researching local artists here and had first come across Video Land on socials then saw my design work.

Ryan, Maddie and the team were total legends to work with and the range we designed (to my surprise officially listed as the Callum Preston collection) sold out in 2 hours at the Rams fan zone the day before the game.

Here is some of what we did, and a few that didn’t make the cut, some BTS of sketches and some scenes from the fan zone and the game including the postcard mural I painted at the tailgate.

Sketches, details and finals, drawn, distressed and reworked in Melbourne at home, my studio in Collingwood, Torquay at my parents, and on the kitchen table in Seattle at my wife’s parents home.

I’m so thankful to @maureenwyse for making me a Dad.

Just gone 4 months and it’s just the best. Feels weird to post about to friends and random internet people, but I feel so fundamentally changed by this little person and seeing the incredible Mum that I always knew Mo would be, it will seep into all of my own creative work, in the best way possible. So i wanted to share that new fact. So much has happened in the journey and since she has arrived even more things that we could never imagine, feels like a blur.

You won’t be seeing her on here, but just know that whatever I am posting on here work wise, know that my life in the background is filled with so much love for our little family and new found inspiration and I couldn’t be more grateful. by @callumpreston

Thankful and proud to be back on the tools with our small but mighty team to build @r_o_n_e HOME which is now open to the public @chadstone.au for their LIGHT TO NIGHT festival. This was a whirlwind project that everyone in our crew brought their A game and special skillset to. While the center was going about its day for weeks behind hoardings we constructed a whole house, rooms, porches, backyard, shed and more for you to explore. As if the center was built around it.

These projects mean so much to our community of friends who support and help us so much, it’s a pleasure to build things with good humans for the wider public to enjoy.

AI proof your future, pick up a pencil, paintbrush, needle and thread, or a hammer and make something that you want to see become reality. It will bring you more joy than a prompt ever could. It sure does for me. Thanks Tyrone and Alice. by @callumpreston

A new shirt design for @pauldempseymusic to celebrate the Shotgun Karaoke II tour kicks off regionally around Aus. Bringing that collage weirdness, I especially enjoyed the truck hauling the reel to reel, it gets its own little moment on the back of the tees with all the tour dates.
Grab one at a show, are you seeing Paul on this run? He’s just brilliant, highly recommend. by @callumpreston

So stoked to get to create this years poster and merch artwork for the legends @clarityrecordsadelaide for their annual @recordstoredayaustralia bonanza. I loved drawing their amazing shop and imagining what it could be like if planning permits allowed 5 story tall billboards celebrating all things music. What they do and what this shop provides is so important to the landscape of the arts, so be sure to remember that record store day is just one day, but every day is a great day to be supporting your local independent record store!

Almost 2 years and thousands of visitors, Video Land has been packed down into storage. It will live again, sometime in the future, once again showcasing the past.
