September:
- pushed my body to the limit
- ran a 65:31 HM and a 2:20:16 Marathon
- been in a photo shoot with @adidasrunning & @sportsshoes
- eaten and drank an unholy amount of beetroot and turmeric
- been in a dark place, and dug myself out.

Can’t wait to see what October brings…

Berlin Marathon: 2:20:16 - 8th Brit 🇬🇧. Play by Play.

0-10km: I settled into a 2:20 group within the first couple of kms and repeatedly told myself I needed to be bored. The first 10km sailed by. Aside from getting the odd clip, and everyone fighting for the blue line, this was a dream scenario.

10-21.1km: We cruised through the half, still in our 20 strong group, in 69:25. A touch fast, but I opted for company rather than a solo charge. My heart rate was between 166-168. Bang on where it needed to be.

21.1km-30km: The group began to splinter, fast. Guys charged up the road but then drifted back only a few km later. My 25-30km split was equal with my fastest split of the whole race.

30-35km: Within a few km, I went from running in a strong 20 athlete pack to being solo. The kms felt harder but I was clinging on to 3:20 min/km like my life depended on it.

35-40km: The headwind. We turned a corner around 35km and I looked up at an arrow straight road and could see people hardly moving. A block headwind pushed all of us back. I stopped looking at my watch and started racing people, picking people off. Every single place a fight. I didn’t quite realise how much I had slowed, as everyone around me had also slowed. I still felt strong.

40km-Finish: We eventually rounded the corner and I felt myself pick back up. I knew a 2:20 was going to be very tight and I gave it everything I had. Dropping back to 3:25 min/km was a huge positive for me and I managed to muster a sprint finish (3:08 min/km for 600m!), but the 2:20 train had already sailed!

2:20:16 was all I had on the day and I almost executed the perfect race.

All of this would not have been possible without @adidasrunning & @sportsshoes in my corner. Absolutely phenomenal weekend from start to finish and going back into school this week, being treated like a celebrity, has truly made me realise what a fortunate position I am in.

Midnight Insomnia thoughts post Berlin:

Proud, but not happy. I hate how after a race I always want more, but that is the nature of the beast I am in a dogfight with. I hate negativity. I hate being around it. I’d hate being around me at times, and I certainly hate being in my head. I fight it internally and want to be positive - I remind myself about all the things I have in my life that I once dreamed of. However, not feeling good enough, isn’t simply something you can switch off.

Berlin was an immensely positive experience, in both how I felt in the final km and throughout the vast majority. With that said, I can’t not be hypercritical of my own personal decisions throughout. I am rash - a shoot from the hip sort of guy. Don’t think, just do mentality.

I see a guy up the road and want to hunt them down; if someone surges off the front, I’ll cover it and get annoyed when others don’t.
But, marathons don’t reward knee-jerk reactions, they reward careful, calculated detonations - something I haven’t quite mastered yet.

I have a lot of personal growth, irrespective of my fitness, to make. I am fit enough to run better, just not emotionally mature enough to execute a plan.

However, I’m improving: 2:24 in 2025 (died at mile 14); 2:21 in April 2026 (died at mile 22 - and fell off a cliff) and finally a 2:20 in September 2026 (slowed at mile 25, but no pop moment - then rallied in the last km).

Overwhelmingly positive progress and the writing is on the wall to say I am knocking at the door to something special - but that doesn’t help how I feel right now.

This isn’t a cry for help, but a vulnerable insight into a brutal world I pour everything into, that isn’t quite giving me what I want, yet.

I’m hungrier than ever, and more motivated to train harder than ever. I want to set my alarm for tomorrow morning and dive back in. But even I know that isn’t the right thing to do.

Berlin tomorrow. One more sleep and some unfinished business to settle. Time to right a big old wrong and put the marathon to bed once and for all.

2025: 2:24 + 2:32

2026: 2:21 + ?:??

Berlin Block 2026. 9 weeks. 938.9 miles. 104.3 miles/week.

12 days over 30km. 9 days over 20 miles. 6 days over 23 miles.

It’s hard to pick out just the key sessions or long runs — every single run has had a purpose. All so I don’t cross that finish line disappointed again, like last year.

Not quite certain on a goal, but off the back of a 65:31 at GNR in a 100 mile week, 2 weeks out - I’m confident.
