Not every run needs to be hard to be effective 📍

Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from understanding why you’re doing something, rather than just doing more of it 🧑‍🦯

Something to think about on your next run ✨ by @calvinhammond_ft

Week 2 of the new block ✅ Priority is building the mileage back up and conditioning the body for the upcoming longer workouts and races 📈📍Marathon training? @andrewbooyens

Extremely grateful and blessed to have the current selection of shoes for training and racing. 10 years ago I used to dream about being in this position.

If you are in your endurance sports hybrid athlete fitness era (obviously you are 🐑)

Then do yourself the biggest favour and take your body in for a checkup the same way you would if your car wasn’t starting 📍✔️

You only get one of these things; and the more you look after it, the longer and better it runs 🙋‍♂️✨ by @calvinhammond_ft

5 things I have learned from the last training and racing block (May to mid September) in no particular order 📍📝✝️📈🧬🚀

1) You can’t force fitness. Patience + controlled and specific efforts / paces are what brings out the right fitness, energy systems and efficiency.

2) If your goal is to prove a point to people, or to fill an emotional hole in your heart with pbs and cool strava graphs, then ya ain’t gonna get much satisfaction or growth up here 🧠 and in here ❤️

3) Mileage over forced intensity. Not much else to say there 🤝

4) Strengthening your glute medes (constantly) is one of the biggest injury prevention tactics 📍

5) The going out, partying, drinking, hooking up and attention seeking culture has entered this sport in a massive way and is morphing endurance sports into the new love island. Not a fan

Beyond grateful for the last few months of training and racing, and cannot wait to continue this current momentum.

The science behind running faster in endurance sports 📈🧬🧪🚀⚡️ part 2 📍

• Aerobic efficiency: Produce the energy needed to run using less physiological effort.

• Build volume with less cost: Easy running creates adaptations that let you handle more kilometres with less fatigue and recovery demand.

• Oxygen-use efficiency: Your body becomes better at delivering and using oxygen to produce energy aerobically. by @calvinhammond_ft

The science behind running running faster in endurance sport 📈🧬🧪🏃‍♂️ part 1 📍

🫀 Mitochondria — increases the number and function of your muscle’s energy-producing units, helping you produce ATP more efficiently.

⚙️ Oxidative enzymes — improve your muscles’ ability to use oxygen and convert fuel into energy.

🏃 Efficiency — with more mitochondria and greater oxidative capacity, you can produce energy aerobically at a lower physiological cost, helping you hold faster paces for longer. by @calvinhammond_ft
