Titlakatihkeh tlen teosinte.

We are born from maiz.

In many Indigenous Mexican traditions, humans are not merely sustained by corn, we are literally made from it.

One creation story is before humans existed, Creator attempted to make people several times. The first humans were formed from mud, but they dissolved. The second were carved from wood, but they had no souls, no memory, and no gratitude for the world around them. They walked and spoke, yet they lacked heart. They were destroyed.

Only after these failures did God discover yellow and white maiz hidden within a sacred mountain. The kernels were ground into masa, mixed it with water, and from that masa came the first true human beings. These people could think, remember, speak, love, and honor creation because they were made from the same substance that nourishes life.

Maiz is not a crop. It is an ancestor.

We do not eat maiz because we are hungry. We eat maiz because we are returning to our origin.

We didn’t “domesticate” corn.
We made a pact with It. With teosinte, the roughly ~10,000 year old ancestor of corn. The pact was:
• Humans would care for maiz
• Maiz would care for humans

It’s a reciprocal relationship.

Neither species would exist in its present form without the other. It’s one of the oldest examples of co-evolution between people and a plant.

Sin maiz, no hay pais.

I’ll give you the short version. One night in November of 2021, I was sitting outside doing a prayer and a meditation and in that moment I felt like I received a “download” out of nowhere. I suddenly felt a strong pull to pursue a culinary craft that, up to that point, I only ever considered to be a personal interest, passion, hobby, which I NEVER thought I would take seriously. In the next few days I followed that feeling and I looked up only 2 schools. First one, I pretty much hung up on the recruiter due to their poor attitude, and the second one was @iceculinary in New York. I ended up winning a scholarship, which would pay for most of my program. Made the move to literally one of the greatest cities on the planet, my home away from home, where I got to spend 3 nights a week with my amazing cohort and instructors. 👩🏽‍🍳 When I say that we slayed each night…trust. 🔪

I got some big ideas in my head for this new endeavor, and I can’t wait to manifest it all. Loading…✨💫

Keep demanding a ceasefire and end to the Palestinian genocide that we are all watching happen right before our eyes.

Dont sit this out. More than 7000 people are dead. Half are babies and children. Close to 20,000 people injured. Many people are missing. 50,000 women are pregnant.

2.2 million in Gaza are cut off from telecommunications to the outside world, no water, no food, no medical supplies as the city is being leveled by airstrikes. Half of this population are children.

Israel is carpet bombing neighborhoods, schools, and hospitals in Gaza, constantly making up lies and excuses to justify targeting civilians whom they refer to as “human animals”. 100% supported by the US President and funded by US tax dollars. Israel has even refused to take Israeli hostages back as an excuse to keep bombing Palestinians.

Go to protests in your area if you are able. Share posts about what is really happening on the ground in Gaza.

So much to say, yet, I can’t find the words. My heart is shattered at the reality that you’re gone. Just like that. As unexpected as this was, Im happy you didn’t suffer.

But we weren’t done yet. Not even close. Please come around often, Rudy. ❤️🪽
