What a joy to watch God work miracles these past three years. Gonna miss this place. Gonna miss these people. by @camden.hyde

The first weekend of college I remember being up late one night, thinking about how scary it was to have just moved to a new state far away from friends and family. That same night I walked out of my freshman dorm into the aftermath and chaos of the first real college party for the freshmen. People passed out, some crying, others clueless where they were, I remember thinking how desperate people were for connection with others.

I realized in that moment that an alternate option was needed to the same old parties that take place regularly. An alternative was needed for those who wanted connection in a new type of way. The best connector of people I had ever known? Jesus.

It wasn’t until 3 months later that I would actually begin to lean into that Holy Spirit prompting. We started promoting a late-night Friday Bible study where people could gather and after weeks of planning only 5 people showed up. 5 who were already close friends. I thought maybe it wasn’t supposed to happen, but we kept trying anyway.

A month later, suddenly there were 17. Friday night after Friday night for the last 3 years, the group has grown, molded, and became a place where people not only gather around Jesus but begin to shape their lives differently too. After all, living the alternative to the things of this world isn’t easy, but I’ve found, as have many others, it’s the best way to live.

We got to fill the park with worship many times, we got to study God’s word, we got to eat too many double-doubles to count. To everyone who has shown up to The Alternative at one point or another, thank you. I hope this isn’t just some Bible study on a Friday night for you though. I hope it is the way you’ll choose to live the rest of your life.

Though my time here is done, I’m excited to watch what this group does from afar. Nothing makes me more excited than seeing people pursue Christ. Keep running the race my friends. It will be the hardest yet greatest thing you ever do. What are you waiting for? Go live the alternative today.

With love,

Dominating in two sports AND in the classroom 👏

A standout for both Kingsmen basketball and track & field, Camden Hyde helped the hoops team capture two SCIAC Regular Season Championships while also earning All-Conference honors in the high jump. Alongside his athletic success, Hyde is graduating early with an outstanding 3.93 GPA as a Communications major, earning CSC Academic All-District honors and recognition on the Winter Allstate NACDA Good Works Team.

Congratulations to the 2026 Cal Lutheran Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, Camden Hyde!

They say basketball is a game of making shots. As my journey comes to a close, I realize it was far more about making memories.

Grateful for my family who supported me, my coaches who pushed me, and to all the brothers gained along the way.

Thank you, Jesus, for this game. That little kid would be proud. by @camden.hyde

Being part of the #GoodWorksTeam is special, but leading @alternative_biblestudy is what makes it personal. The Alternative focuses on providing an alternate option for college students to socialize late on Friday nights and give back to our community. The mission is important because we are built for connection with others. Especially when Jesus, and the love He offers all, is at the center. That’s the kind of legacy I want to leave. One where every person knows God loves them and desires relationship with them. Ask me about Jesus today!
