On Panel One: How do I pivot?

Forrest Liu is a San Francisco community organizer and political consultant. Before entering politics, he worked in finance, making his career a compelling example of professional reinvention and values-driven change. He later co-founded Dear Community, which grew from pandemic-era efforts to protect Asian elders, support Chinatown businesses, and respond to anti-Asian violence. Forrest has worked on local political campaigns and is part of the founding team behind Garry’s List by Garry Tan, CEO of Y Combinator.

Hwanghah Jeong is the owner of Jilli SF, a modern Korean makgeolli and tapas bar in San Francisco that Bar Magazine recently named one of the city’s 10 best bars. Before entering hospitality, she worked as a user-experience designer at Airbnb and several AI companies. Her move from screens to spaces grew out of a belief that experience design doesn’t stop at the interface. At Jilli, she applies a holistic UX approach to physical space, designing every touchpoint of the guest journey, fro taken in Donaldina Cameron House by @cameronhousesf

We Have an Attitude of Gratitude…FOR YOU!
💛 Thank You, Ron!

Our Cameron House community shows us love in so many ways—and today, we want to give a special shoutout to Ron Gin! 👏

Thanks to Ron’s generosity, our youth had more opportunities to enjoy one of their favorite summer activities: hands-on STEM! 🧪🔬✨

His donation of STEM kits expanded our supplies and gave our youth more chances to explore, create, experiment, and learn throughout the summer.

"Cameron House hosted “SF Trash Talk 三藩市城市垃圾問題!”, a community workshop about one of San Francisco’s biggest challenges: trash and waste.

We were excited to welcome Vincent Yuen and Jessica Li from Refuse Refuse SF as our guest speakers! They shared about:

🗑️ What’s the problem?
🤔 Why does it matter?
💡 What solutions are out there?
🙌 What can each of us do?

Our participants shared that they learned a lot and are excited to put what they learned into practice! Workshops like this give our seniors opportunities to learn, connect, and stay engaged with their community. 💛

Your support helps Cameron House create more educational opportunities for seniors to learn new things and make a positive impact in their community. Every contribution makes a difference. 💛 Donate on our Linktree in bio!

We Have an Attitude of Gratitude…FOR YOU!

"Twenty volunteers from Google’s Asians in Marketing Employee Resource Group spent their lunch break giving back!

Together, they created 50 activity kits for the Asian Women’s Shelter, filled with:

🖍️ Crayons
🎨 Coloring sheets
🧱 LEGO sets
💌 Handwritten notes of love & support

After assembling the kits, the group toured Cameron House and learned more about our community, culture, and history. We’re so grateful to these volunteers for showing up for our community and spreading a little extra joy! 💛

Asian Women’s Shelter’s Truc commended the effort and collaboration, saying that the items provided were thoughtful and very useful for their shelter residents. Thank you, to the Google volunteers for spending their time creating something thoughtful and meaningful for local families.

Our Summer Adventures students wrapped up an incredible summer with a showcase full of:

🎭 3 original student skits
🥋 Kung Fu
🎀 Ribbon Dance
🐉 3 Dragon Dance teams

And that was just the finale!

Throughout the summer, students learned, created, explored, cooked, camped, made friends, and stepped outside their comfort zones. They practiced everything from reading and math to AI, problem-solving, budgeting, and teamwork.

Most importantly, they built confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging. 💛
Help us create more experiences where young people can learn, grow, and belong.

This October, Cameron House is launching a small mentorship pilot connecting emerging professionals with experienced mentors who can offer career guidance, encouragement, and practical insight.

Meetings may take place virtually and will be scheduled at mutually convenient times. While we hope most sessions will occur in October, pairs will have flexibility if scheduling requires some meetings to happen later.
Because this is a small pilot, not every mentor who applies will necessarily be matched. We will only create matches when there is meaningful alignment between a mentor’s experience and preferences and a mentee’s goals.

Apply to become a mentor by September 21!
Mentors will hear about their match by September 25.
Matched pairs will be introduced by September 28.
Interested in helping an emerging professional navigate their next chapter?

Bringing Community Voices to the Table 💙

Cameron House was proud to join Uber’s roundtable alongside domestic violence agency leaders, policy experts, and government representatives. Our team shared insights and recommendations on how rideshare and autonomous vehicle services can be safer, more accessible, and more supportive for riders—especially the clients and communities we serve. We’re grateful to have our frontline experience included in conversations that can help shape safer, more responsive services. By sharing what we hear and see from our community, we can help create meaningful change while building stronger partnerships.

When community voices are heard, better solutions are possible. Together, we can help build safer, more accessible, and more responsive services for everyone. ❤️

Cameron House was honored to collaborate with SF Heritage for a special panel discussion as part of their Page Memorial Lecture Series, celebrating legacy businesses in historic landmark buildings doing modern day programming. These businesses are called “adaptive use” spaces, and Cameron House may be the only one in the country doing youth programs in our historic building.

The conversation explored Cameron House’s rich Chinese American history, the story behind our historic building, and how our space continues to serve the community through youth programs and social services.

🎤 Panelists:
• Woody LaBounty, President & CEO, SF Heritage
• Anna Eng, UC Berkeley Lecturer, Cameron House alumna & 2026 Gala Honoree
• Kim Lan Grout, Chief Advancement Officer, Cameron House

SF Heritage members enjoyed a docent-led tour of Cameron House’s Parlor, Library, basement and tunnels, and Upper Deck, along with a limited-edition Cameron House poster designed by Vietnamese American artist Michelle “Meng” Nguyen and Jeffrey Larimore.

Thank you, SF Heritage, for helping us celebrate where we’ve been, where we are today, and where we’re going next! ❤️ What part of Cameron House’s history inspires you most? Share with us in the comments!

💛 Community in action!

Thank you to everyone who joined Cameron House and Asians Are Strong for Mayor Lurie and First Lady Becca Prowda’s One City Day!

Together, 50 volunteers came together to pack 60 care kits for the Asian Women’s Shelter, learn about domestic violence prevention and personal safety, practice self-defense skills, and have meaningful conversations about how we can support ourselves and one another.

From learning practical safety tools to simply showing up for each other, the day was a powerful reminder that we’re stronger when we look out for one another. 🤝

Swipe through to learn more about the incredible speakers, organizations, and community partners who made the day possible!
