Artober Day 10: Circus Cookies

Ever wonder why riso prints are a bit more expensive… well, it’s because no two prints are the same and it can take a lot of trial and error to get it right.

Of course, I get the energy to make a print like the night before the print fair. But sometimes you just gotta go with the flow.

Designed these circus cookies for the print fair today! Fun fact, I almost lived in a converted warehouse that used to be Old Mother’s Cookies. Instead I moved into a former ice cream factory. 🍦 by @camilleeeoo

Artober Day 9: Packing for the Los Angeles Printer’s Fair

I truly wish packing for an event only took 30 seconds. The first bag has all my set up equipment. The second bag is all my inventory. It’s nice that my inventory is mostly paper which is so compact compared to other merch. Local 2-day events are also nice because you don’t have to pack everything. You can always bring more the second day.

I know my second bag is so dirty… but after my samsonite got stolen at an outdoor market, I lowkey think the dirtier the bag the less likely it will get snatched. Both of my bags are actually pretty worn down, but they’ve lasted me such a long time.

@closeopenclub will be at the Los Angeles Printer’s Fair this weekend from 10-5pm at the International Print Museum in Carson! Hopefully it won’t be too hot this time. :) by @camilleeeoo

Artober Day 8: Nilaga

Spent my day off with my grandma. This was supposed to be a nilaga recipe how-to, but honestly, I only took clips of my grandma and I yapping instead of proper ingredients and cooking shots haha. I love nilaga… one thing I regret was asking my Lolo to teach me how to cook it when he was alive. But luckily I still have grandma around.

Here’s the Nilaga recipe anyway:

Ingredients:
- Half a cabbage
- 1 onion
- 2 carrots
- 1 potato
- 2 lbs short rib chopped
- 1 cube of beef knorr
- Whole peppercorn
- Salt and pepper to taste

Boil the short rib with peppercorn, tablespoon of salt, and water for an hour. While waiting, cut the cabbage into 2 in pieces, cut the onion into 8 sections, cut the carrots and potato into 1 inch pieces. After 15 mins check, scoop out any gunk on the top of the water. After an hour, add the vegetables except the cabbage in. Wait another 15 minutes (or until the carrots are soft). Add the cabbage in and wait another 10 minutes. And add salt and pepper to taste!

My grandma is the reason why my family immigrated to the US. She was working for the US Navy for 15 years before she applied for the visa. She talked about how she’s happy she picked this neighborhood even though she thought the house was “the ugliest on the street”. They put in a lot of work in the house and saved a lot of money. She’s sad that in this time of her life, all her friends seem to be sick or dying. But she’s happy she has her family around her. If you’ve ever met my grandma you’d see she kind of exudes Don Corleone vibes. I hope I can grow up with that much swag.

You can occasionally hear my toddler level Tagalog. But there’s only one way to get better at speaking and it’s unfortunately…. Speaking 💀 by @camilleeeoo

Artober Day 7: Happy Accidents Books

Some days, I have no will to do anything after work, and lately I’ve been feeling that. Haha~ But thats ok, because it’s Saturday and now I have no excuse but to luxuriously work slowly.

Riso printing is really such a hit or miss process. A lot of times if the drum is even working, the way I set up my file was not. And with that comes a lot of prints that can’t really be sold. Once I get a large stack of them, I organize them into books called ‘Happy Accidents’ because honestly even the mistakes look kinda cool— theyre just not up to my standards to sell by themselves.

Thanks @smingsmingbooks for the colorful spirals! 🥹💕

Next weekend I’ll be attending @printmuseum ’s Los Angeles Printers Fair, Oct 17-18 at the International Printing Museum in Carson! Stop by and say hi~ there will be so many amazing artists there and it will be a great time! :) by @camilleeeoo

Artober Day 6: small beaded curtain

Um this video makes me look like a mathematician but… I am not. 😂

A lot of people ask me how I made my bead curtain for my display. Well, you’re in luck, because I’ve been meaning to make a small curtain for some time now and now you too can make your own bead curtain. HAHA. I’ve had these materials for a while, but it is my first time testing out this poster hanger method and honestly it is super perfect for this project because it’s light weight but super sturdy!!

Materials:
1. PVC poster hanging display
2. Pony beads
3. Cord (thin enough to go through the pony bead, but honestly not too thin!)
4. Mental strength.

If there’s anything you need to know about this project ahead of time, it’s that you will really need to be on top of counting. One small counting error and really set you off. It’s possible there are smarter ways to make this type of bead curtain, but this is how I make mine! Hope this helps!! by @camilleeeoo

Artober Day 5: shrimp hair claws

The point of this series has not been forgotten. But I definitely needed to take on a smaller project. Today we are making shrimp clips. I love a little weird object— especially one that is food related.

If you haven’t done decoden, I feel like you should try because it was very therapeutic for me. I’m happy I used up my materials because I don’t think I will make it a full-time hobby! Hahaha

If u ever find yourself wanting to make clips… if it isn’t obvious I bought the shrimps and clips on amazon 🙃 u can type: “fake shrimp” and “clear hair clips” 💀 and super glue is from Office Depot.

OK, one hobby graveyard item removed! Let’s see what’s next. #artober by @camilleeeoo

Artober day 4: What it’s like to vend at a one-day event (ft. @mayumi_market

Yesterday, was the day I tried out my new milk crate set up at Mayumi Market! I really wanted to talk more about the market and how amazing the organizers, staff, volunteers, and vendors are. But this baby content creator didn’t take enough footage. So I pivoted this narrative to be about what it takes vend at these one-day markets.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported my work despite the psychotic heatwave in LA right now. And thank you to my booth neighbors @p_s_c_5000 and @saldana.studios who kept me company and yapped with me!! It was so nice to see familiar faces! I honestly wished I could have hung out more~ I’ll have to do a haul later!!

Honestly, the milk crates worked perfectly for this event. It never felt unstable and actually provided so much storage space behind the booth! It was perfect. ❣️✨

PS. Shout out to my makeup for staying on my face despite being in this heat!!

Artober day 3: Milk Crate Booth Set Up!

I wanted to share how I think about my @closeopenclub booth set up and show you how I prepare for a craft fair with an unconventional booth. I love using milk crates because theyre pretty light, theyre modular, and they add a really nice vibe to a booth.

Something I don’t touch on in the video is how I try to optimize my booth for vending alone. I really don’t want to over complicate things— and I feel like these milk crates elevate the branding without being too difficult to set up!

Lastly, everything is tied together with cable organizing Velcro! So it’s really light weight but secure! ✨🙏

Hope you enjoy! And see you TODAY at Mayumi Market! 🥰✨

PS. bruh how do people edit videos 💀 it takes so long

Artober Day 2: Mayumi Market Riso Prep!

A lot of my friends ask me what do I do for my day job… well, here’s a little snippet. Actually most of the time I’m working on graphics for paid social or email, sometimes landing pages. Today, was actually really fun because I love to illustrate. A lot of my days are packed back to back like this because I generally have a lot of energy. (Maybe it’s double coffee).

Shout out to my trainer @marc_linus @virgil.street and my co-workers at @navsmb 😂 that credit builder card is waitlist only sorry…

This year I maybe went too hard, or maybe it’s the food poisoning, or maybe I’m getting old. But, there’s just so much to do!! I just have so many things I want to accomplish!

Come and hang out this Sunday, October 4th, if you’re free! I’ll be popping up at Mayumi Market Filipino Fest from 12-5 at Common Space Brewery. :) #printober #artober #inktober #printartist by @camilleeeoo

✨ Yesterday, was the beginning of my annual October art challenge, ‘artober’. It’s been 6 years since I first started doing a daily ‘something’ for a month… for better or for worse. I’ve learned a lot about myself and the projects I want to focus on. So despite how taxing it always has been, I’m always happy I did it.

Unlike most artobers, instead of a print a day, this year I’m going to try something different. Though it’s nice to come out of October with like 30 new pieces, I feel like maybe I should try to complete the many unfinished projects I started and threw into the closet. Turns out I have like a lot… of things to finish.

I also stopped making artober reels in 2024 mainly because I switched from TikTok to Instagram again and now that hopefully these “projects” will be easier (HAHA), I’ll have some time to make a cutie lil video and refamiliarize myself with the phone editing platforms. 💀 Im scared.

Anyway, here’s to carving out time to be creative outside of work. And Happy Filipino American History Month, friendsssssss! Yeeeeeeee!! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 by @camilleeeoo

Every year, my birthday comes around and I think about how lucky I am to have made it around the sun again~ 🌞

It seems there is no end to learning new things, tasting new flavors, meeting new friends— I’m impressed with how much more there is to grow. Thank so much for growing with me, friends. I really appreciate you! 🦁💕 by @camilleeeoo
