“Everyone who ever met Lola would always say, ‘She’s so happy. That smile is infectious.’” In the lead-up to her diagnosis, though, mum Laura began to notice that she wasn’t herself.

Alarm bells started ringing on Christmas day 2024, when her beach-loving three-year-old didn’t want to go for a swim.

Over the next few weeks and after trips to the hospital, Lola still wasn't getting better so Laura pushed for another blood test.

“They walked into the room, and I knew what they were going to say. I was rocking back and forth with my head between my knees while they delivered the news that Lola’s blood results were most likely leukaemia,” says Laura.

Laura and her husband Brad drove straight to the John Hunter Children's Hospital in Newcastle, where Lola had surgery and started chemotherapy the next day.

Laura says that in the first few months, their community rallied around the family, dropping off food, helping with childcare, and taking care of chores. Slowly, they were able to find their feet.

"No matter how many times we walked into that treatment room, it never became normal. Watching your child smile while chemotherapy drips into their tiny body is a kind of heartbreak that’s impossible to put into words."

While Lola was in hospital, the Camp Quality puppets visited her. 💛

“Every time the puppets came, Lola’s eyes would light up. They took away some of the heaviness, allowing her to still be a little child and bringing that beautiful play element."

After a long year of treatment, Lola moved onto maintenance chemotherapy in early 2026, and life slowly shifted to a new normal.

When Lola returned to preschool, the puppets visited to perform the Cancer Education Program show.

“The educators said it was one of the best days of their teaching careers, seeing how beautiful it was for Lola to feel part of a community. It was like, ‘These are my people. I know these puppets. These are my friends.’” ✨ Lola, sitting on a hospital bed. by @camp_quality

🚗 THAT’S A WRAP ON WESCARPADE 2026!

From WA’s spectacular Southwest to the Great Southern, 32 colourful and wacky-themed cars, including official vehicles, travelled more than 2,500km through scenic forest tracks, river crossings and plenty of mud – all in support of kids facing cancer.

Along the way, our wesCarpade crew rolled through local towns and communities and visited schools, bringing plenty of colour, laughter and Camp Quality spirit wherever they went.

After eight incredible days, the adventure came to a very special end at the Motor Museum of WA at Whiteman Park, where some of our Camp Quality families and visitors welcomed the cars across the finish line with loud cheers and homemade signs, before coming together to celebrate an unforgettable week.

And there was even more to celebrate! With a fundraising goal of $350,000, our amazing wesCarpade community went above and beyond, raising an incredible $455,000 to support kids and families facing cancer. 💛

A massive thank you to every entrant, official, volunteer, donor, supporter and community who got behind wesCarpade and helped make 2026 one to remember.

We want to say a big thank you to all the truck drivers, community members, Camp Quality families, our amazing event sponsor Baaz Heavy Towing, food and activity vendors, performers and volunteers who joined us at @perth_motorplex for Convoy Perth on Sunday 🚛

It was incredible to hear the truck horns blaring and see the colour and community spirit in support of kids facing cancer! 💛

For one of our participant teams, Team Kalynda, the day was especially meaningful. Alongside celebrating their place as the highest fundraising community team and second lead truck, they marked an even more precious milestone: Kalynda’s seventh birthday. A birthday her parents once feared she might not reach.

Six years ago, Kalynda was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. She had a tumour filling her chest cavity and compressing her spine. Her treatment began as COVID-19 restrictions were introduced across Western Australia, making an already frightening experience incredibly isolating for the family.

After Kalynda entered remission, the family discovered Camp Quality.

“Camp Quality has supported us by allowing us to be with families that understand. Families we can chat too and not feel alone," says Kalynda’s mum, Kareena.

“They have given us amazing opportunities, weekends away and little getaways for our family to reconnect and make some incredible memories.”

The family has taken part in every Convoy Perth since it began four years ago, raising more than $143,700 overall. Kalynda’s dad, Craig, even dyed his hair pink and purple after a supporter pledged $8,000!

“Convoy Perth is an amazing day out for our family, but it is also our chance to give back to an amazing organisation that has done so much for us.”

A huge thank you to @9newsperth for covering the event and sharing Kalynda’s story and the incredible generosity of the WA trucking community 💛 by @camp_quality

This #WorldSmileDay we’re celebrating all the moments, big and small, that bring a smile to the faces of kids and families impacted by cancer. 💛

At Camp Quality, our goal has always been simple: to help families create memories filled with positivity, fun and laughter. ☀️ We know just how special a smile can be for a kid who has spent months in hospital or watched someone they love go through treatment.

Some of our youngest campers recently joined us for a day of high ropes, big adventures and even bigger smiles at Junior Camp. 🌳✨ They scaled trees, zoomed down slides, and made lots of new friends.

We received so many wonderful messages from families about the day:
☺️ “The kids really enjoyed their time at the Junior Camp. A day full of fun and adventures,” says Laura, Luna and Levi’s mum.
☺️ “The girls had so much fun reconnecting with friends we met whilst on treatment. They were exhausted when they got home!” says Virginia, Chloe and Nina’s mum.
☺️ “Ada loved her little camp!” says Zilan, Ada’s mum.

Today, like every day, we’re reminded just how powerful a smile can be. For our little campers, each one represents a moment of fun, connection and the chance to simply be a kid again. 💛 by @camp_quality
