Today was all about Little Gore. Big Gore gets all the accolades and cred, but Little Gore is quite fun (and way less crowded). I’m a newbie to skiing, so sticking to the greens is my jam. Gore mountain greens are a little harder than mountains like Belleayre, so I definitely had a challenge ahead of me.

The first time I went down the Peaceful Valley trail (ironic name really), I nearly had a panic attack at the middle section. I took my skis off and walked down. The next time, I tried, fell and walked down again. The third time, I made it the whole way without falling!! I was so damn proud of myself. Now did I look like a skilled skier? Hell NO - I was going side to side as slowly as I could, but you know what?! I made it. Learning to ski in your 40’s is a journey. Some days I feel awesome and like I got this, others like today, I feel scared and defeated, BUT the one thing I do is keep going. There’s only one way down the mountain right?! 😜

We love that @goremountain is a 15 minute drive from our cabin and we look forward to sharing that with others soon!! Fingers crossed that we can start renting it out this spring - slow and steady wins the race right?! Well, at least you cross the finish line (this is definitely the theme for my skiing abilities and fixing our cabin up 😜).

One of our favorite spots in North Creek is @barvino . Seriously ya’ll, when you visit us in the Dacks, you must stop in for some yummy food and drinks. The ambience, the service and the vibe are absolutely delightful. I also appreciate that they are plant forward with their menu (and let me tell you, that’s not always easy to find in the Dacks) - the vegan curry they made was absolutely off the chains delicious!! But don’t worry my meat eating friends, there is plenty of good stuff on their seasonal menu for you ;). Don’t miss this place on your next trip up to north country.

The @garnethilllodge_ny is just up the road from us and we couldn’t be more grateful that it is. From the lodge, the food and all of trails around this place, it’s just awesome.

It’s a four season experience - in the summer you can hike, bike, paddle, play disc golf and in the winter there are endless trails for cross country skiing and snow shoeing. There is something for everyone.

The lodge over looks our favorite Thirteenth lake and the views are magnificent. They also have a little beach with a dock and Adirondack chairs for you to lounge and swim. The rustic nature invites you to step back to more tranquil times and slow your roll - just be in nature.

And the Log House restaurant serves up some yummy food - they even have vegan options, and for that, I’m grateful. We can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. When in the Dacks, it’s a must visit.

One of our favorite things to do when we are up at the cabin is to canoe 🛶 out on Thirteenth Lake. Yesterday it felt like we had it all to ourselves! Pure magic. It’s a short five minute drive up the hill from us - we feel so lucky to have this little lake so close by, it makes for many summertime memories.

Goodness do I LOVE this little perfectly imperfect, yet ever so charming cabin. We have been hard at work up here. Painting, staining, cleaning, installing underground electrical lines, installing all new plumbing to make it a year round cabin, tearing down walls, and so many other things. We FINALLY have running water, and not just running, but it’s HOT 🚿- like I can’t even believe I’ll be taking a shower up here this weekend - it’s a whole new world folks.

One step closer to being able to share it with others. Looks like we probably will be able to start renting it out next winter ❄️ season for some skiing 🎿 and all the fun winter sports. Stay tuned!!

Seriously one of my favorite views from the cabin. We came up for the holiday weekend and had our first snow squall experience. One minute it looked like this (nice and sunny) and the next it was dark, windy and the snow blowed in. It happened so quickly and then left pretty quickly. I love the Adirondacks and the magic that winter brings.

It’s puzzle building time!! Anyone else break out the puzzles for the holidays? We try to do at least two each holiday season and love that it’s a slow pace fun activity. Slowing down at this time of year feels so good!

I didn’t get a chance to visit the cabin one last time this year as Covid found its way to me again - boo 😒. Brandon and Milly went to help with the whole isolation thing and they had so much fun being up there. I will have to wait until the new year to spend some time here again, but I know when I show up, it will be magic. I love our little cabin. Til’ the new year Camp Aldous.

We are heading up to the cabin this weekend for some relaxation and maybe work on a project?! We’ll see. We still have some things left to do - like getting hot water going, putting in new junction boxes in the bathroom, installing a new sink in the bathroom, wallpapering in the bathroom, installing a new toilet, and, and, and …. I could go on. But for now, we are happy we have a home with heat, running water and all the cozy vibes.

Can’t wait to eventually be able to share it all with you! Still on a spring time launch date. 📅.
