CAMP LEADERS 🏕️

Paving the way for the next athletes.

All three athletes had their own journeys to earning their pro cards. They faced their own challenges, faced their own battles, had doubt creep in from time to time.

What makes them different than other athletes is the way they met adversity. They met it head on and beat it. They prepped like high level pros. They focused on executing the basics, high level communication and knowing when rest was important. They lead with a great attitude. They separated themselves from other athletes this way but as a trio they displayed the same attributes.

Training is a big one and just like every athlete all three trained when they were tired. They trained tired but their intention never changed.

It’s one thing to prep a client, and it’s another to prepare them for what comes after the stage.

It’s a weird time, to be honest.

Bodybuilding prep teaches us to be incredibly disciplined, focused, and intentional, but that same “full send” mentality can make navigating post show kind of difficult.

I know for me personally, I’m at the point where I’m starting to see the scale go up more and more, and even being a coach and KNOWING the necessity of this, I still sometimes struggle with losing the lines and seeing my physique get softer.   I also do miss having that big end goal to chase, but I also really appreciate having the energy to ride my dirt bike again or do something in the afternoon rather than stare at the wall in exhaustion lol

But the goal isn’t to eliminate these feelings or make myself feel less than for feeling them. They aren’t evidence that I’m doing something wrong but just a part of going from strict as hell to a more nuanced approach. And the same goes for you, my friend.

Progress isn’t comfortable, and in bodybuilding, taking improvement seasons to focus on growing the physique that will make you radically different the next time you step on stage is a nonnegotiable.

Two things can be true at once, and learning to hold space for both without the spiral might be one of the most important skills you develop as an athlete.

The Journey to becoming a Pro

We learned a lot over the past 9 years.
We learned through experience.
We learned through loses.
We learned through a lot of emotional decisions.
We learned how to be a bodybuilder.

Show 1: Leigh Brandt Muscle Classic 2017

Open Class A Win
Lost in overall

140lbs soaking wet

Like anyone’s first show - this was the hardest prep I’ve ever done. Not just because i didn’t truly know what i was getting myself into - it was mainly the methods that were used. None of it makes sense to this day.

I was told to use gear right away.
Chicken rice and broccoli for 5 meals.
No salt, no stevia, no hot sauces. Just plain meals for 18 weeks.
On my reverse I was told not to ask for any substitutions.

I said F that and gained 25lbs in 2 weeks. I gained 25lbs not because i threw in the towel - it’s because the guidance was not there.

Show 2: Vancity Showdown 2020

This was when the CPA formed and I was able to be in true novice and novice again.

Overall Win

163lbs here but also not lean enough compared to what I got to for my pro win. If I was to guess I should have been 156 here or so.

I took 3 years off because god blessed me with Jaden.

This was a prep that was much smoother than the first. It was my longest prep for a regional show. I started prep in November 2019 and this show was late into 2020 because Covid kept cancelling shows. I was aiming for LBMC 2020 when Covid hit. I was 13 days out when this happened.

I pushed through prep with equipment i had at home and bought a Stationary Bike for cardio.

This prep showed me that I could stay locked in for an extended amount of time. I could do more than what people consider the length of a prep. After this prep I stopped counting how long I was in prep and I just got it done.

Show 3: North Americans 2021

This show taught me humility. It humbled me.

3rd call outs. 163lbs here. Same as my last show but much leaner.

I truly thought I was turning pro here. I’ve excelled and won at every sport growing up and was not used to losing s by @campevolution

Wow… 2nd place 🥈 at my first nationals! 🥹

I went into this show hoping to at least make first calls out and I walked away with a silver medal.

I’m so proud of everything I’ve accomplished in my first year of competing as a Fit Model athlete. 3 shows, 2 first place finishes and 1 second on a national stage.

I’ve learned so much about myself through bodybuilding. The process of putting in the work every single day, showing up consistently, sticking to a plan, being strict with your diet, trusting the process … it all teaches you a lot.

I’ve also learned that I really love bodybuilding. There’s something very special about stepping on stage and seeing all of your hard work come together in that moment. I already wish I could re-live this day again!

This wraps up my season though and I’m so excited for what’s to come next year!! I still have my eyes on a pro card. 👀

Fit Model 2nd Place 🥈 @fitwithshelbylynn

Canadian Nationals

Shelby stepped on her first Nationals stage as a natural athlete, went up against the open class, and placed 2nd out of 13 Fit Model competitors. That is a HUGE deal and I couldn’t be prouder of her.
