As I mentioned in a previous post, I wasn't too happy with the skinny-tyred rear tyres on the Hot Wheels Porsche 917K. So I came up with an unusual solution - I put it onto 1970s Matchbox Superfast tyres......

This involved drilling out the centres of the old wheels, this was done by going through different diameter drill bits one at a time.

I then fitted the tyre over a Hot Wheels wheel set from the Alfa Romeo Giulia.

The operation allowed me to see inside the model, and look at the detailing. I was impressed that they detailed the 'spare wheel'. I then painted the driver's seat, not that it shows!

Admittedly the end result is far from perfect, its a damned sight better than it was.

Now you've seen my drilled out Matchbox wheels I'm sure someone will try it on other projects. by @canamcustoms

I thought I do some comparisons with the Hot Wheels Vintage Racing Porsche 917K.

The first five are with the Majorette Collection Ford GT40. Majorette getting it right with nice fat tyre. Ths model cost less than the Hot Wheels, and it has suspension.

The last three are with my own custom of the Corgi Juniors Porsche 917K, with @creative_one64 wheels. by @canamcustoms

I visited an Asda for the first time in ages this morning. I was surprised to see how much diecast stuff they had (my experience in thd past has been pretty bad). Without too much grovelling around I found these two. I honestly did think I'd find the 908. Its an absolutely wonderful little casting The 917 is good too, apart from the stupid skinny rear tyre. That is unforgivable on a £9 model. by @canamcustoms
