DCAD - District of Columbia Association of the Deaf. DCAD became a non profit organization because NAD needed more funding and it became an organization to support NAD and its office. There were many Deaf leaders that worked for NAD and Gallaudet. They worked together to make it happen. Today DCAD works for Deaf residents and employees who works in DC. Deaf Club! They are important part of our lives. They have contributed greatly to local community. I will tell about MWAD. Metropolitan Washington Association of the Deaf! It all started with men who were working at Government Printing Office (GPO). They heard about Deaf club from other cities. They started a club room across from GPO where Union Station currently stands. I loved going to the Deaf club. It is a place of their own for Deaf people. The most comfortable place. I’ve seen may couples fall in love in the club house. They exchanged their working life, family, health, issues among the community with hearing people. We also had cards games, meetings, dancing, games and many more. It is heart to many at home. Deaf clubs are almost non-existent. I know you love Deaf club and would love to have it back! 🤟🏼 Sharable by @canthecant

Day 3: National Fraternal Society for the Deaf. Established in 1901 through advocacy work from Michigan Deaf School Alumni. First division started in Chicago and the headquarters for Life Insurance Policy available for Deaf people. They opened the organization so Deaf people can own life insurance at that time we weren’t allowed to have or own policy through hearing organizations that sells life insurance policies. The organization lasted from 1901 to 2005 or 2006. Unsure. It closed because there were many opportunities for Deaf people to buy life insurance with different companies. NFSD also opened many doors with leadership roles by spreading awareness about Deaf people and policies across the nation and even worked with national Deaf organizations like NAD. Deaf Awareness Month Deaf Organization Day 2. Pennsylvania State Association of the Deaf formerly known as Pennsylvania Society Association of the Deaf. The father of PSAD Robert Ziegler who believed that Deaf should be leading the association. He contacted the Governor to use facilities at the capitol using Hall of House Representatives. The governor agreed making PSAD the first state to held a conference and established an organization in 1881. PSAD is know for making changes such as interpreting, advocacy, and so go on. It’s September 1! This means Deaf Awareness Month. I’m going to share 30 wonderful Deaf organizations across the country. Let’s celebrate our first Deaf organization in US.
