Aloha Friends, Supporters, Families and many more,

I have been selected to paddle for the Olympic Hopes Regatta with the United States Sprint Kayak team. I am currently on United States Sprint Kayak National Developing Team. I am honored to represent Hawaii and my country.

I am currently in need to cover lodge and airfare for the trip to Poland. I will need 3000 dollars for the competition.

Given that I will compete to win for my country especially my Hawaii Ohana in Lahaina, Maui the gold.

I will be baking sweets at ten dollars each. If you want to order, please DM or text me.

Pound Cake for $10
Brownies for $10
Banana Bread for $10

If you don’t want the baked sweets but want to donate- please donate through my mom’s Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, Apple Pay or cash (Venmo - @darlene-ewan

This is a twofold post! Happy birthday to you, Leilani, who’s seen in this video! Also this is a repost of a video I shared two years ago. You all know me- I am big on fingerspelling. I was delighted when @canthecant shared this video with me of Kila & Leilani fingerspelling Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Darlene shared: This activity is a wonderful way to memorize and practice their fingerspelling skills. Both children were able to fingerspell the word with a way to memorize the breakdown of the word.
You should fingerspell with your children often. Weekly Vocabulary
is a good way to start fingerspelling. The skills will eventually grow on itself. 🤟🏼

Recently had a conversation about fingerspelling and deaf children. Sharing this here. People often wonder how deaf kids learn words, and the spelling of words. I tell people- we just have to memorize them, period. We use our own cues to remember the spelling words. In this video here, you can see him closing his eyes and just memorizing the words, seeing the words in the head, then fingerspell it. That’s how many of us do it. (Truth be told, many of us are better spellers because we have to remember rather than relying on the sounds of the words). Another great resource on deaf children and fingerspelling is at www.vl2.gallaudet.edu. Look for research briefs #1 fingerspelling. I will share in my story.
Many thanks to @canthecant for sharing a video of her girl, Leilani working with her nephew on his spelling words (like & take).

Repost off @canthecant
This never dies! Many Deaf children probably will try to remember the words by closing their eyes when fingerspelling the word.

Leilani works with her nephew memorizing them word. He closes his eyes so he can show his aunt he remembers the words he’s spelling. @whyisign #whyisign #askmewhyisign #fingerspelling #deafkidsrock #memorizingwords #visuallearning #visuallearner #signlanguage #asl #americansignlanguage
