31 Jan ‘25 — Performance presented by C.A.N.V.A.S.

As part of the exhibition “An Uaimh Bhinn”, featuring new work by Lugh O’Neill within a scenography by @temporary.pleasure , a series of events explores the potential of this new ephemeral space and its transformations.

On 31 January, C.A.N.V.A.S., a record label and event series by @lugh___ and @olanmonk , presents the first event. It highlights the spatiality of sound, with Elvin Brandhi and KMRU engaging the unique sound system and architecture, transforming the space into their own.

- Joseph Kamaru, aka KMRU, is a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based sound artist exploring field recording, noise, and sound art.
- Elvin Brandhi is an improvising lyricist, producer, and sound artist from Bridgend, Wales, crafting beats from field recordings, tape, vinyl, instruments, and voice.

This performance is part of IFFR 2025’s “Art Directions: Performances” and will be held in and around the exhibition “An Uaimh Bhinn”.

CANVAS013: Xao - Wirehead is released today 2nd December on Digital and Vinyl LP.

"Xao has been working alongside the C.A.N.V.A.S. label since the beginning, and his second album builds on the promise of 2019's Astral Black-released "Eternal Care Unit", by burying some of his most recognisable inspirations into an algorithmic shimmer of vaporous sound design and cyborg percussion. The roots of ‘Wirehead’ can be traced to the mid 2010s obsession with shaping global club echoes and videogame FX into music that accurately scored our descent into digital dystopia, but Xao makes a clear link between those ideas and the brain-fried cyberpunk vistas of William Gibson. His guiding theme is the idea of the contemporary digital attention economy with its algorithmically-powered tidal wave of content, and the mental states that follows - employing procedural and algorithmic compositional methods to shatter this status quo, reaching in the direction of a proposed "digital spirituality" in the process.
