Another fun day ticking off the school holiday bucket list with a trip to the movies to watch Annie and then some energy burning time at Playsation tokai.

Lots of fun had and a first time at the movies with Dad. It was the first time for us both watching Annie, a fun movie with a tug at the heartstrings with it's "Tomorrow" song. Bella loves a song and dance movie it may well have replaced Mary Poppins!

We are so proud of Bianca for signing up to do the Lifegaurd Award with Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club.

We had lots of fun watching Mom and the other Masters going through their surf rescue training this morning. The invaluable skills they are learning could help someone or save a life.

We wish all of those busy with their Lifeguard Awards, Retests, and Upgrades all of the very best for the voluntary Lifeguard season that lies ahead.

Pretty much how my ear op recovery went today. I guess you never really know how you will react to going under until you do. According to the nurse, I don't react well to drugs. An odd statement I know, and I assume now she actually meant the Anesthesia.

My last surgery was appendicitis 40 years ago! No wonder the anaethetist was surprised when I asked him where the mask was after he put the needle in my arm. Needless to say, when he asked me if I felt woozy, I remember saying to him I think so, but I haven't had a drink in 6 years. He laughed, and that was the last thing I remember.

When I came around I began trying to get changed until the Nurse asked what I was doing and then asked how I was feeling. The video pretty much tells the rest of the reality check when my blood pressure tanked a bit. I swear the chicken mayo sandwich and rooibos tea was the best I have ever had. Although a very expensive meal, thank goodness for medical aid

Look after your ears, kids! Wear a hoodie and plugs.if youre surfing and always wear a cap and beanie post swim if you're swimming, especially in cold water.

Huge thanks to the awesome Dr Gary Kroukamp and the team at Life Sports Science. Let's see how recovery goes and how long it is until I'm back in the water again

Said it before and I will say it again. It's not easy letting go.

I still get a bit too protective of Bella and just can't help myself sometimes. But I love how she knows that it's just Dad being Dad and is happy to play along. Until it's time to show Dad who's boss and that Dad's little girl really isn't little anymore!

She's growing up so fast I cherish every moment she wants to share these moments with me.

Just Wow!

My heart is bursting with pride after watching Jess take part in her final WP High Schools Athletics Championships.

Jess sprinted to a personal best 58.88 and won a Silver Medal in the Girls Under 19 400m. It's worth mentioning that the final was a close affair with 4 girls all going sub 60 seconds!

Jess smashed her previous best of 59.31 at the 2025 Western Cape School Champs. In winning Silver today she has again earned a place in the Western Province High School's team to take part at the Western Cape Championships for the 4th consecutive year!

I'm so proud of the incredible Athlete and Person you are Jess. You have continued to make improvements again this season whilst continuing to excel academically also! As Athletics Captain at Reddam you have again represented them with humility and grace.

Congratulations Jess!

Yesterday Jess competed in the Under 19 Girls 200m and 400m heats at the WP High School Track and Field Champs.

The conditions were not easy for the athletes with strong SE winds causing havoc around the track and on the field. The straight must have been like running into a brick wall!

Jess had a fantastic 200m and 400m. She ran a great 26.9 placing 2nd in her 200m heat and qualifying 5th fastest for the Final. Her main event the 400m went well also as she sprinted to a very composed and comfortable win in her heat in a 1.01.6, the fastest qualifying time for the Final.

Two more Finals and an incredibly proud Coach!

Dusting off the cobwebs at Bike Park in Constantia this week. Its been a couple of months since our last visit and it was great to see Bella so happy and confident as always on her bike.

Enjoying the last days of holidays before our little girl begins Grade R next week at @fishhoekprimary . How time flies I dont think I'm quite ready yet for this next step even if Bella is.

Let's hope there aren't too many tears shed by Dad next week

Happy New Year!

Great to start 2026 off with a good workout on the Noordhoek Sports Fields. After a nice warm up we did some plyos and activators to prep for the 3 10m fly throughs.

Jess recorded some pretty quick 10m flys this morning with a slight tailwind. A great way to help dust off the cobwebs as we look to get Jess back to her maximum velocity numbers of last season.

1.21 = 29.51 km/h
1.17 = 30.77 km/h
1.15 = 31.03 km/h

The 10m flys were recorded using the Freelap timing system

After an extended break from Sprinting following a successful season where she broke 60 seconds and finished as the fastest Under 18 girl in Western Province.

Jess was back at it today and showing that she still hasn't lost her coordination and sprint ability. From the two 10m flys we timed with our @freelap timing system she hit out a 1.16 with a speed of 31.5km/h and then a 1.22 with 29.5km/h. Not bad going for a first session back now lets see if she can break her PB of 1.11 34.2km/h this season!
