We've got new dates ‼️

Due to operational requirements, we have new dates for our last curated tour for 2026 being to Dakar, Senegal, in the closing days of the 16th edition of the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art. Our curated tour schedule will run from Thursday 3 to Monday 7 December (inclusive), with us arriving on 2 December and departing on 8 December as travel days.

The 16th Dakar Biennale is devoted to the theme of (Anti)fragility. To be (anti)fragile is to adopt an attitude that transforms fragility into a strength (both expressive and artistic) by valuing social and communal bonds (co-creation). This concept originates with the thinker Nassim Nicholas Taleb, who explains how one can learn to live in an uncertain and chaotic world, and even benefit from difficult situations and shocks in order to emerge from them strengthened and transformed.

We once again partner with amazing collaborators, and the trip will provide you with a unique experience that encompasses five days and six nights of art, food, fashion and culture in the Land of Teranga.

For more information, head over to the trips page at the link in bio or email hello@capitalart.co.

Fasil Seboka (@fasil_seboka) is a contemporary painter based in Addis Ababa, creating semi-abstract figurative works that blend personal narrative with gestural expression.

Speaking about his current practice, Seboka says "Drawing from personal experience, my work interrogates the paradox of stagnation within perpetual motion. I observe individuals suspended between the desire for change and the constraints of circumstance, be it economic pressure, familial duty, or existential fear. Through this exploration, I invite viewers to confront the dissonance of our accelerated world: How do we claim agency when structures overwhelm us? Where do we find stillness when the pace never slackens? My practice seeks not just to depict this tension, but to create a space for catharsis and recognition within it."

"Frame of light" (2026) as seen at @thespace_ethiopia at @fnbartjoburg 2026.

donna Kukama (@donnakukama) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice engages performance art as a tool for creative research.

Her work presents institutions, monuments, gestures of protest, rumors, and fleeting moments that are as real as they are fictitious. Shifting between performance, video, text, sound, and multimedia installations, her practice takes on a form that is experimental, applying methods that are deliberately undisciplined. She uses performance as a strategy that allows her to invent as well as to apply methods that are outside the canon of what is predictable or expected.

Kukama questions how histories are narrated and subverts how value systems are constructed, instead centering methods and perspectives that originate from the Global South.

She has participated in the 57th Belgrade Biennale; 12th Lyon Biennale; the 6th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art; 32nd Bienal de São Paulo and 8th Berlin Biennale. She was recently one of the small group of artists invited to launch the 10th Berlin Biennale’s public program, and was also a part of the South African Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale.

"Their wound is where the light will always enter" (2025), as seen at @blankprojects at @fnbartjoburg 2026

Janice Minjin Yang (@janiceyangart )is a figurative painter whose work is shaped by her upbringing in South Korea and her relocation to the United States in late adolescence. Her practice emerges from this movement between cultures and engages questions of migration, identity, labor, memory, and displacement.

Drawing on symbolic elements from Korean art, Yang creates liminal, illusionistic spaces that exist between places and states of belonging. Through layered surfaces and recurring motifs, her paintings connect everyday labor with shifting ideas of home. Her figures and interior scenes reflect personal memory as well as experiences of cultural transformation.

Regarding this artwork completed during a residency programme with Gallery MOMO in 2026, Yang says "[This painting] reflects my spiritual awakening: the moment negative thoughts and rigid rules suddenly lost their grip on me, liberating me to explore new creative realms. The colourful palette and breaking of the flying shapes are inspired by my experience in South Africa, meeting cheerful people whose vibrant culture, electric energy and genuine warmth truly revitalised my spirit and inspired [me] to explore freedom."

The artwork titled "이완 (Iwan)", as seen @gallerymomo at @fnbartjoburg 2026

Today's word in our art collector glossary is Vernissage - we all love those!

Vernissage is a term used by the art industry to refer to the private preview held before an art exhibition or art fair officially opens to the public. It is a great place to network with art dealers and gallerists, be taken through an exhibition by your art advisor, as well as catch up and share views and insights with other art collectors.

The origin of the word is French, literally a varnishing or touching up (of paintings) - and we have certainly seen some artists putting the finishing touches on a work or presentation at a vernissage too!

Did you know this art term? Let us know in the comments

Opeyemi Olukotun (@opeyemiolukotun) is a Nigerian multidisciplinary artist. Délio Jasse (@deliojasse ) is an Angolan artist who now lives and works in Milan, Italy. Jasse's practice uses photography, often printing found images, to explore the idea of collective memory as well as his own immigrant experience, often exposed to long and complicated bureaucratic situations, where a single stamp or a document is enough of a challenge or threat.

Jasse is known for experimenting with analogue photographic printing processes, including cyanotype, platinum and early printing processes such as 'Van Dyke Brown', as well as developing his own printing techniques. He uses analogue processes to subvert the reproducibility of the photographic medium, creating subtle variants and interventions using painting, liquid-light, gold-leafing and collage.

This work is Città Foresta (2022) as seen at @akkaproject Venice, forms part of a group exhibition titled "Constellations", presented as part of Black History Month Milano and Black History Month Firenze, aims to raise funds in support of Picha Art Centre (@picha_art_center) and the Lubumbashi Biennale (@biennale_de_lubumbashi).

Picha Art Centre is an independent art and research centre based in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For over 10 years, it has supported artists, researchers and thinkers by offering a free space for creation, experimentation and critical reflection; rising operational costs and reductions in international donor funding have put the centre at risk of closure. Picha Art Centre has also been the driving force behind the Lubumbashi Biennale, with its 9th edition running from 15 October to 15 November 2026, and will be curated by Belgian-Congolese independent curator Sorana Munsya and Italian-Ethiopian-Eritrean artist-curator-professor Jermay Michael Gabriel.
