We are excited to share that SVG has been listed in the new ISRA E-Atlas as an Important Shark and Ray Area, along with Areas of Interest within our archipelago.

Important Shark and Ray Areas are crucial habitats for one or more shark or ray species because they support activities such as reproduction and nursery grounds, migration corridors, or other critical life stages.

Our newly identified ISRA is an important pupping area for lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) a declining species, a site where members of our team has documented pups for more than a decade.

“This is the only area in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines where early life-stage lemon sharks have been recorded regularly and predictably.”

The areas listed as Areas of Interest, are considered possible important sites, but they do not yet have enough information to meet the ISRA criteria.
