We are excited to share that SVG has been listed in the new ISRA E-Atlas as an Important Shark and Ray Area, along with Areas of Interest within our archipelago.

Important Shark and Ray Areas are crucial habitats for one or more shark or ray species because they support activities such as reproduction and nursery grounds, migration corridors, or other critical life stages.

Our newly identified ISRA is an important pupping area for lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) a declining species, a site where members of our team has documented pups for more than a decade.

“This is the only area in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines where early life-stage lemon sharks have been recorded regularly and predictably.”

The areas listed as Areas of Interest, are considered possible important sites, but they do not yet have enough information to meet the ISRA criteria.

You can see the full publication in our biosite above.
@iucnshark Thank you @sharky.lady, Oceane and everyone who helped put us on the map.

This is a part of the family of Fraser Dolphins which are local from the lesser Antilles..
They travel from North to South as you can see on the map !
I got to know that the males ( with the black lines on his head ) are quite rare in the Southern part of the Caribbean
Very happy to have them in our beautiful waters of #saintvincentandthegrenadines🇻🇨

One year ago, Hurricane BERYL, a category 5 cyclone, devastated the Grenadines — one of the jewels of the Lesser Antilles, where I had the chance to grow up. The impact was brutal, and these are small islands with very limited means.

But in just a few days, an incredible wave of solidarity rose from Martinique. Companies and individuals mobilized in ways we’ll never be able to thank enough. The CCS team stepped up. We received so many donations that we were able to carry out two missions aboard French Navy vessels.

I had the honor of being invited by the Navy to board the Dumont d’Urville. It was an intense but beautiful human experience, with an amazing crew. Thanks to our knowledge and the help of Raven and Kate, we were able to distribute the donations efficiently — nearly €1 million worth just days after the disaster.

I found again the power of Caribbean solidarity — people with heart.

With cyclones becoming more frequent, we’ll need to hold on to that spirit. Even with just 30 hours of sleep in two weeks, I’m proud of what we achieved. And I’ll never thank everyone enough for their support. ❤️🌊
