OMG that feeling… when you know everything’s come good! That’s what we had today, on the dock in Nea Paramos, near Athens, Greece. We’ve sailed for two weeks together with total harmony. Seven people from different walks of life, came together to form a “crew” which is a special thing. We had bad weather and difficulty conditions at times, but through it all we had our camaraderie and joint sense of purpose. We triumphed and you can see it here in our faces. A great trip, nearly over. We’ve seen a lot and had some great experiences together. The fact that we’re all still great friends after two weeks in close proximity speaks volumes for the personalities of the folks onboard. We had such a fabulous sail from Kythnos! Plenty of wind from the north, half-reefed main and genny on the starboard tack all the way to our night anchorage. It’s a beautiful thing. Another dawn & the start of another voyage. Doesn’t matter how short or long the trip is going to be, there is always the excitement of anticipation. As the old saying goes, “ships in a harbour are safe, but that’s not what ships were built for.” So there will always be an element of risk, which starts as the last line is slipped from the dock and the anchor raised from the seabed… we’re on our way and it’s another blessed day. #sifnos #sailing #greece taken in Sifnos Island Cyclades by @captjamesmcbride

When the wind decides to blow in the Cyclades, it can certainly be “a lot.” So it’s good to savour a little sightseeing hiking time and relax… take a breath and appreciate your surroundings. Those gorgeous white, flat roofed houses with the blue doors and windows compliment the rugged landscape so well. Not many trees of course, but the bougainvillea seems to thrive in adverse conditions. We know there’s a break in the weather coming so we’re not worried. We’re cooking creamy shrimp linguine onboard tonight (speciality de la maison) after the obligatory sundowner margaritas natch. Well we certainly did our train impersonation yesterday coming out of Paros and heading to the island of Kythnos. With a lively breeze from the north and our handkerchief size sails, we were steaming along! Choo Choo!! 7 hours later we docked in the gorgeous little port of Loutra for lunch on the dockside. There are worse locations for dinner 😂 The crew of Juicy Lucy enjoying a relaxing dinner after a hard day’s work adventuring on the high seas. The adventure never stops. This morning a very relaxed downwind sail in a Beaufort 5 towards the island of Milos. Of course that’s where they found the Venus de Milo which stands in the Louvre art gallery in Paris. What a fabulous story that was, but the thing which has always struck me is… where are her arms? They’re made of marble like the rest of the statue, so they will still exist… somewhere. )Marble lasts thousands of years)#venusdil. Could they still be on the island of Milos…? Can you imagine how much they would be worth? Anyway as you can see, animated conversation continues on the aft deck of the Juicy Lucy as we continue our voyage of discovery arouthe Greek islands. Oh NOW we’re in the groove! Yep we’re rocking and rolling, fully serviceable and heading for the Cyclades Islands. It’s funny, but occasionally I get asked, “Don’t you miss flying?” Well… I spent many hours, days, weeks sitting watching the autopilot working and monitoring the instruments. And now here I am watching the autopilot on this fabulous Sun Odyssey 52 working away, sawing at the wheel and we’re flying along! Aww life is good huh?🤷‍♂️😁. Today we covered 58 miles in just less than 10 hours under sail… and we could say that was “shmokin’” 😜 We’re in Serifos tonight at anchor in a well protected bay.
