NEW BOOK "HOW TO STEAL A JET" 24/6/24

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The headset.

When you first start flying you truly realise how expensive everything is in aviation. But, you also realise that there are some great people out there.

The name scratched into the side of this @davidclarkheadset is James McBride.

What started out as a message looking for advice on which headset to buy, ended with him sending me this for free.

I put plenty of hours on it during my training before finally moving to @boseaviation. Today these serve as a backup headset and a passenger set for my flights, still going strong after many years of love and use!

Thank you @captjamesmcbride for your kindness and advice!

“Losing your life isn’t as bad as never having lived it.”

This quote struck a chord with me as I read it yesterday in Tom Huitema’s @fit2flya787 book Flying and Dying.

Life is meant to be lived, not simply endured. It’s about embracing opportunities, chasing dreams, and stepping out of your comfort zone to discover what truly makes you feel alive.

For me, that has been flying. Over four decades I’ve had the privilege of around the world, witnessing its beauty from the cockpit. From the endless fjords of Greenland to the bustling cities of the globe, every flight has been a reminder of how extraordinary this planet—and life itself—can be.

But it’s not just the destinations; it’s the experiences along the way. Navigating challenges, meeting people from all walks of life, and learning to appreciate the vastness and diversity of our world—that’s what makes it all so worthwhile.

Living a well-lived life doesn’t mean you have to be a pilot or travel the world, but it does mean finding your version of flight. It’s about discovering what lights a fire in your soul and pursuing it with passion. Whether it’s starting a business, learning a new skill, exploring a creative outlet, or simply taking that first step toward a long-held dream, the key is to take the leap.

Don’t let fear or routine hold you back. Life is fleeting, but the stories you create, the relationships you nurture, and the experiences you embrace will last forever.

So, I challenge you: what is it that you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t dared to try? What’s stopping you from making the most of this one precious life?

Follow your dreams, Take the risk. Reach for the skies and Live boldly. After all, losing your life isn’t as bad as never having lived it. Make sure that when you look back, you can say with confidence: I truly lived.

How to Steal a Jet @captjamesmcbride

A few months ago, James sent me a PDF copy of his new book, asking for my thoughts after reading it.

What struck me most was how much the book resonated with me, reflecting many experiences I’ve had during my long career as an airline pilot.

James, who recently retired after a distinguished career in the RAF, the airline world with the start of Easyjet, and corporate flying, has compiled a series of short stories that highlight the pivotal moments that defined his journey.

It’s a great read for both pilots and non-pilots, offering a unique insight into the life of a pilot.

I couldn’t resist taking this photograph, given the book’s title. If you enjoy biographies about pilots, this is definitely one to add to your collection.

Thanks James for a great read and for inspiring me to write my own story…… coming soon.

Airbus 320. Best looking short haul airliner there is in 🍊 EasyJet livery.
Did you know that EasyJet started with Boeing 737 to fortunately going to bright side of aviation and ditched Seattle based plane maker before its doors started to fall off the plane?😆❤️😊

Scotland’s Favourite Airline.

Here we are in Palma again, this is flyglobespan’s third shiny new Boeing 737-800 G-SAAW. So new in fact they hadn’t had time to put the g s on the tail. flyglobespan commenced operations in 2003 but expanded rapidly in 2005 when this was taken. GSM were great at flying to the European sunspots. Things got complicated when they expanded into Longhaul and the reputation was marred by technical issues and highly publicised delays. The company sadly ended in 2009 after financial difficulties and being embroiled with credit card clearing company e-Clear.
