In 2011 the parasail captain from the marina next door saw me at a bar and asked if I wanted to come work on the boat the next day as a crew member. Now it’s turned into my whole career.

Seeing this second location with Sun N Fun Parasail come to life is surreal. I’m beyond grateful for all the support over the years. Working with an awesome team and seeing this dream unfold is just amazing.

If you’ve never been to Englewood and checked out Manasota Key, I’ve got a reason for you. From February 7 to March 15, I’m giving 50% off our deluxe flight to friends and family who want to come fly with us.

Just let me know when and how many people. I’ll take care of the rest.

Spring break is arguably the best time for parasailing out here. Warm days, super clear water, and the chance to spot all kinds of marine life. Plus 43 years of experience making sure this is an adventure you’ll be telling everyone about the moment you step off the boat.

And if it doesn’t blow you away, I’ll personally refund you.

In 2021, Andrea asked me one simple question. How in the world are you going to make all this work?

I gave her the honest answer.

I don’t know.

At first, I did the only thing I knew how to do. Put my head down and work from sunup to sundown. Seven days a week. 120 days straight.

It’s a belief that served me for over a decade.
The harder you work, the more successful you’ll be.

If that were true, the mule would be the richest animal on the farm.

Last year, Andrea stayed on me. She kept pushing for a day off. Not just for me, but for the team.

So before this season even started,
I made a promise.

To myself. To the family. To the crew.

Every Sunday off. No matter what.

At first, it wasn’t easy. I didn’t want to go further than I could see the parasail. I’d linger near the booth. Hover while they were loading the boat. Answer questions. Gear people up. Check that things were done just right.

But then something clicked.

My leadership style. What I thought was helping. Was actually enabling.

I wasn’t creating leaders. I was creating dependencies.

And I finally see the difference.

I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work alongside. They call when they need me. They handle it when they don’t.

To anyone in a leadership role. Take that scary, uncomfortable, miserable first step.

Let go.

I’ve replaced the belief that carried me for so long..
ā€œJust work harder.ā€

With a new belief..
ā€œTrust the process. Stick to the plan.ā€

PS: @famousag is the true captain on and off the boat. I couldn’t be lucky to have her by my side! taken in Lake of the Ozarks by @captjustinbeard

Big boy up, big boy down..

I can feel the shift happening.

For a decade my place was on the boat. Leading from the helm. It had become simple in its own way. Do the checks, fly chutes, bring people back smiling. Day in and day out, I knew exactly where I belonged.

But lately, that feeling has been changing.

My time behind the wheel is coming to a close. Not because I can’t do it, but because it’s time to trust the crew. They have put in the work to earn their new level of discomfort. Now it’s time for me to lead by example and embrace the comfort of being uncomfortable myself.

Lead not from the boat, but from the outside.

This transition I once longed for is heavier than I expected. There’s comfort in routine, in knowing every sound, every gust, in controlling every aspect of the operation. But growth doesn’t happen in comfort. And I know this next chapter of building the vision and leading the team from the side is where I’m needed most.

As the saying goes ā€œA smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.ā€ taken in Discomfort Zone by @captjustinbeard
