Reflections on a first month of bliss(ful chaos):

- Someone once told us it would be like living life in 4D: higher intensity, overwhelming, yet more vivid and afterward you can't imagine life without it.
- Progress (also recovery) isn't linear, but humans are so adaptable - as evidenced by watching a newborn struggle to eat, digest, poop, sleep, repeat. But they get better and so do we.
- Whatever I was warned about childbirth and the aftermath and at the time thinking I am not afraid of physical pain - lol. For a relatively uncomplicated birth and recovery, the first week was still pure insanity - the simultaneity of physical recovery, sleeplessness, the feeling of helplessness watching our baby wail and not yet understanding what they need, trying feed a baby with neither party yet knowing how. (How did the cavewomen do it? I will never know.)
- It takes so many hands - grateful to do this with @ericsu89 and with much help from our families
- Newborns force you to live in the present - the need to tend to their needs on demand - but also a reminder that life's best moments are enjoyed in the present, not planning for the future.
- Birth and life is a miracle. The commonality of babies and giving birth doesn't make it any less so.

Been reading more about Sugimoto and thinking about the sea, possibly the only view that remains universal and unchanged throughout history. There is a kind of eternity or timelessness of seascapes. Land forms change over time, but the sea remains.

Finally coming out of post design week hibernation to share some full images of Upon Further Reflection. It’s experiences like these that remind me why I wanted to be a designer in the first place. Working with an inspiring team like @loraappleton @tortugaforma @gokasai @31philliplim, showing alongside so many incredible AAPI female designers, and working together to celebrate the diverse work and voices of creatives and awesome orgs like @femaledesigncouncil @aapi_designalliance during @nycxdesign and AAPI heritage month was a dream. What a beautiful experience, and one that I know will be a highlight for years to come. Thank you for supporting, sharing, engaging 🤍

Sneak peek of this piece, for Upon Further Reflection exhibition on display soon at @31philliplim. See what’s behind these cabinet doors at the public exhibition on show May 20-25 (open to all, no RSVP required).

My most far-out piece yet, this one feels personal, bold, and a little scary to put out into the world. This was a technically challenging piece with a lot of moving parts (literally), but it was important to me to create something specific and deliberate for the thoughtful brief provided by @loraappleton @tortugaforma. I’m grateful to the curators to be included in this exhibition among so many talented AAPI female artists and designers. Please stop by the exhibit to engage with this conversation on female and AAPI identity through the exploration of reflection. Huge thank you to @loraappleton @tortugaforma @aapi_designalliance @femaledesigncouncil for bringing these important conversations to the light of design week.

A few of the many things that moved me in 2022:

1/ New home in NYC with @ericsu89, and discovering its angles, sharpness, harshness, joys, intensity, and vivid energy
2/ Moved by light and land in Pt Reyes, and letting the light wash through you
3/ SF goodbyes and hellos
4/ Spatial generosity at Barragan’s Casa Pedregal, CDMX
5/ Sashaying around Milan Design Week with @rayanahossain, the source of new beginnings and where so many things started brewing for me
6/ Being touched by rainbows and the magic of Sedona with @karayhsieh
7-8/ Reunions with @carolynnnnnhey @limonpina over martinis, oysters, ocean, cliffs, and wild elk
9-10/ The intense, aching stillness of Stinson Beach, and its glorious sunsets that never end

Barragan roof/mass/sky compositions. The vertical masses contain a water tower, chimney, and plumbing shaft.

Some moments from Casa Pedregal, not that my iPhone does them any justice. The light effects, the subtle changes in color perception over time, the curated views which transform as you move through them, the marriage of scales from the tiniest hardware details to furniture to structure.. everything is thoughtful and nothing is an afterthought.

It’s a place where the best moments seem to evade the camera, making it feel all the more precious since it cannot easily be shared digitally. Equally grateful that the owner so quietly and gracefully opens his house for the most low-key and intimate of tours.
