A while back I recorded a batch of one take vocal performances for songs from our last record. “Hindsight” is our unofficial “deathcore ballad”. We took a chance on a song with mostly clean vocals, I’m not sure if we will ever take a chance on something like this again but we are extremely proud of this song regardless. It was heavily inspired by two songs: Desperate Times by Killswitch Engage and Heavener by Invent Animate (shocker).

The song’s basis started with a somewhat unusual idea. I recorded one harmonic note, quantized it to the grid to repeat, ran it through Melodyne, moved the harmonics where they needed to be and wrote the entire song around this concept. All whilst being drenched in melancholic reverb, of course.

Thank you to anyone who has listened to this song and found a way to relate to it. It’s worth taking musical risks when the song you’re putting out comes from a true & genuine place. <3

I did a series of full, one take vocal playthroughs. This is the first of them.

Most of the song titles on “The Axe Forgets, The Tree Remembers” are streets I grew up on as a kid. Pickering Street was one that came with a plethora of tough memories. Screaming these songs are very cathartic for me so I hope the same sentiments can rub off of those who struggled with childhood trauma.

One of our absolute favourite parts of touring is playing new places we’ve never been to before. The highlights of our past tour ended up being all the new places we had no idea would go so hard for us 🤘and we are so thankful to our friend Gary for capturing some of those moments in this video 💛
